I actually enjoyed my time in CAT. Physical training at 5am, lunch at 11am then CounterStrike with my teammates. Then balik at 1pm for formation and drills.

May mga power trippers lang na officers na nakakasira sa reputation and goals ng CAT.

I was exempted from it. But, I requested to take it because all my friends had to. The formation and drills took place on Sundays. It was also another excuse for me to leave the house and wander around Manila (afterwards).

I also got to live-fire the M1 Garand. That was fun. The officers also brought snacks/sandwiches and drinks for us to buy at inflated prices. I thought the whole thing was a scam. ;)

CAT and ROTC is already enough i think.

I have a friend who went to the hospital for a few months because of "training exercises" during his time as a cadet of a certain military branch.

Also, just recently, may mga balita na binugbog nang mga pnp graduate yung trainor nila as part of ganti. Bato's response was, it was just normal.

Military and police need to clean up their ranks first before allowing this mandatory military service.

Violation no helmet or overloading tatlo nakasakay motor. Pag nakita mo itsura at kilos eh paano nanalo yan. Syempre ang bumoto kamukha din nya.

Sana talaga next ayusin barangay system. Hindi pwede magkaboses ang squatter dahil squatter nga eh.

there was a time in the past, when it was suggested that squatters should not be allowed to vote.

This will be and always be a fantasy. Politicians see them as "numbers" and numbers can make a difference. I don't even know how they are able to secure Meralco accounts, or perhaps those are jumper lines.

well, the row of informal settlers in our area, provides voters' numbers that easily outnumber the combined numbers from the more formal settlers', by a ratio of 2, maybe 3, is to 1.

    meralco doesn't mind the jumpers.

Obviously there are people who like all this military training, ROTC, CAT, whatever you want to call it. They take to it like fish take to water. And I'm sure it has its own benefits, and builds character and discipline in its own unique way.

But on the flip side there are those, like our beloved president Duterte, who view all this military stuff as simply crap or not their cup of tea. Our beloved president even went as far as to submit a fake medical certificate just to be able to skip ROTC and graduate at the same time during his time in Lyceum Philippines.

So why not just make ROTC, CAT, military training, voluntary? Let those who want it join. Don't force those who don't want it. There are other ways to build character and discipline out of our men. Sports is one. And participating in sports has always been voluntary.

I'd want people to see military training as a way to instill patriotism. Us citizens should be able to take up arms and defend the motherland when **** goes down.

Marami kasi nagsasabi "I'm patriotic", "I love my country" but how far are you willing and capable of proving that? How do you express your patriotism? Pa like like sa fb? Pa sign sign sa change.org?

Rotc is now voluntary. And from reports of my batchmates who still visit the UPDMST, results and reception are positive. With smaller and willing training cadres, trainings go smoothly. What I don't like is the people who are trying to sell mandatory ROTC are people who never served or at worst played hooky with it, like our favorite mayor.

Sure, basic military training (ROTC) may ensure that those who took it are able and knowledgeable in handling arms to defend the country, but does that mean they are patriotic if or when they do so? Maybe if or when the time comes, they feel they are just "forced" to fight for the country. You get the difference, right?

I remember a dialogue from Godfather II that may be apt to this discussion. Hope you are familiar with it.

"Michael Corleone: [about the unrest in Cuba] I saw an interesting thing today. A rebel was being arrested, and rather than be taken alive, he pulled the pin on a grenade he had hidden in his jacket. He killed himself and the captain of the command.

Guest: Ah, the rebels are lunatics!

Michael Corleone: Maybe. But it occurred to me, the soldiers are paid to fight; the rebels aren't.

Hyman Roth: What does that tell you?

    Michael Corleone: They can win."

Patriotism is not something that is forced on a person, especially a strong-willed person. No amount of ROTC will guarantee patriotism from an individual. ROTC only ensures that the government has a group of citizens they can "enlist" at short notice to do whatever it is they want in the name of national interest.

    My two cents' worth.

ROTC is voluntary, for now. My take is that it should remain that way. Better that way, I believe.

See? People who volunteer for ROTC are way more serious, way more dedicated and even way more patriotic than they will ever be than those who were just "forced" into the program. That's the way it should remain. Better for the program, better for the country.

if there's a law on pilferage, it should be scrapped.

we are paying the inefficiciency of these power distributors.

but, if they caught one the penalty paid will be going straight to their coffers and we already paid for that![emoji33]
