I'm having second thoughts about becoming an AVP![]()
My BFF just got promoted and she said the increase is so low, not even 20%I think it's not worth all the additional responsibilities and projects. I'm thinking if I should tell my boss ayoko na. But that will make a bad impression on me naman. I also know my parents and my Lola will be proud of me, kahit title lang makuha ko at maliit sweldo. Hay. These are the times I wish I were a housewife.
It does put you on a new salary curve so over a few years it should pay off.
Another way to increase your salary is to jump ship, but I'm not sure if that's part of your options since you have your ideal working setup in your current company.

Take the promotion. Opportunity knocks but once. Besides how many people with your attendance and tardiness habits get promoted to AVP? There are millions in the workplace who would die for that position.
20% increase? Thats huge from WITHIN a company. Absolutely huge. And youre complaining?

Bro I'm just curious, how and when did you get started on your real estate investments?
I'd like to invest a lot in land as well. But I've tried making a forecast of my future income and expenses, and it seems difficult to have enough money to start buying high-end properties like yours and banking on the rental income and capital appreciation.

It's not an option for me because I like my job and my bosses. Also, I am 1 year away from getting full retirement benefits. I don't know if things will stay the same because we have a new VP and our current outgoing VP who I am close with, told me that she is her opposite (strict). I don't like being micromanaged pa naman![]()
I'm in line for the promotion pa lang. They have to justify my promotion so they are giving me projects left and right which I am very unhappy with. They hired a new person kasi with almost the same job function as mine but she is AVP. So I told management, it's unfair that we are both specialists yet I am manager and the other one is AVP. They told me I need to fulfill the minimum tenure of 2 years and I will be eligible for AVP next year.
So it's true that 20% is huge within a company? It was my BFF who got promoted this year and when I asked her if she got 20%, she said far from it. Last year I was promoted to Manager and my face could not hide the disappointment because they gave me less than 20%. My VP said they already gave me the maximum % allowed for increase since the company was in really bad shape.
But if one jumps from one company to another, what's the average increase?
Our company offers 10% for promo and starts at 10% top up on job offer. Operative word is start.

I just want to get things straight, as it should be resignation benefits subject to prevailing income tax.
When you say resignation benefits, how many months per year of service? New companies start at year 5, but only at half a month per year...
On the other half which I did not quote, 20% is relative as it relates to the actual salary. Small salary, small increase... So 50% or even 100% increase is not uncommon especially if market driven.

The average increase for a promotion in my company is 5%-7% regardless of level. Im not kidding. If every company gave 20% for a promotion they would be broke in no time. They follow a set curve prescribed from the best HR consultants who have researched this endlessly. This is checked against industry compensation standards, attrition percentages, historical precedents, performance outcomes, profitability and sustainability, job level and function, etc. You dont work in a mom and pop shop. Not even the VPs there can override that salary adjustment curve.

ganun talaga kailangan ng sacrifice. and also mangutang.
si fafa yebs nga sabi nya nakakaubos sya ng isang lata ng palm corned beef sa isang meal lang., ohmigosh, ako 5 meals na yun.
I wasnt always an employee. I had 1 semi successful business (avp and post production outfit) that my partner (a prepress and graphics company) bought me out of. The proceeds of that share sale i used to buy my first house (La Marea in the south....a villar development).
I then used that house as collateral for a small cash loan which i used to buy cheap land in QC. When the price of the land went up, i paid off my existing loan and mortgaged my more expensive property in QC to get more cash to fund other land investments. Me and my wife used our combined incomes to pay off the loans as fast as possible. Double income helped tremendously. Parents' generosity also helped big time. And we were always borrowing money to buy land. 17-18 years ago, price per sqm wasnt even 6k.
Loans and leverage are your friend.
