I only do one on one because I am shy IRL

BTT: How to tell my VP that I changed my mind (without looking bad) and I don't want to be AVP anymore. My friend and I agreed that the additional responsibilities and stress is not worth the compensation. And I have to do this for 2 yrs because I need tenure in my position to quality for the role.

Feel ko lang... you can't, not without leaving doubts about either:
    a. your capabilities (even health related concerns fall under this)
    or
    b. your willingness/dedication.

Time to look for a new job?
    or
Tiis nalang for career growth hehe

If you do turn down the promotion, that's like saying no more promotions while you're still with the company?

That's exactly my concern. I don't want my VP to think that I don't have the willingness/dedication. I was staff for a long time because I told my manager I had no desire to be promoted. I was happy as staff but then I had no choice when I reached the ceiling salary for staff and I won't be able to get increase anymore unless I move to the next level.

Honestly, I am not a competitive person naman. As long as I am able to go to work stress free and get enough salary I am happy.

I need a minimum tenure of 2 yrs in my position before I can even qualify for AVP. So 2019 is the earliest I can get the title BUT I will be functioning as AVP as early as now. My VP said though that her estimate is I will get the promo 2020. Actually, I have been doing the work of an AVP since 2017 that is why I expressed my concern to our VPs na why I am a manager doing an AVP's job

But in our company, you can't avoid competition if you want to be promoted or have a higher salary. It's how our structure is. We are measured and then compared against colleagues of the same level. May bell curve kasi so malas na lang kung high performers lahat ng ka level mo hehehe.

Assuming you sandbag, pag na promote na lahat ng kalevel mo, they'll have to promote you din some time hehe

True, some companies have higher pay than management positions in some companies for lower ranks.

You still talk like a banker

Unfortunately not Madami nga dito 10+yrs na staff level pa rin. They put too much discretion on management kaya if mgt doesn't like you, you can kiss your career goodbye. Either transfer department or wait for the head to be transferred.

If they really want to be in management and have tried really hard, maybe they haven't considered yung third option: sila mismo mag transfer ng company. If they are really management material, makakahanap din naman sila ng management position..

Di ko alam paano magsalita yung banker :O

Same with our company. Staff with higher pay than managers. Managers with higher pay than AVPs.

    You speak like one

We have a lot of slack time in our department that's why attrition is so low. haha! I guess people are willing to accept the lower pay and title with "work life balance" as the trade off.

Oh, that work life balance is a real deal breaker for me.

What do you mean? You won't work in a company without work life balance?

Yes. I put a premium on "work life balance"

Why? Ayaw mo ba ng work life balance?

I'm an IC/Specialist Hmmm... companies from different industries use the same term pala. Though ICs are extremely rare in our department. Nag iisa lang ako. (all thanks to my former VP in HQ who upgraded my role ) What I am fighting for now is to make it an AVP role. E mahina new VP namin

    I don't get papi_smith's statement though.

Agree. One thing I learned over the years is that you hold the pace of your career.

If your company will not acknowledge your worth and contributions, that does not mean you should allow yourself to languish. There are many fish in the sea.
