Ayala Land shuts down centralized gas system at Serendra condo complex

(Updated 6:02 p.m.) Ayala Land Inc. has shut down the centralized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution system at the entire Serendra condominium complex in Taguig City as a precautionary measure, the property firm announced Monday.

The move came after investigators concluded last Friday that a gas leak, not a bomb, was the most likely cause of the explosion at the luxury Two Serendra unit that killed three people on May 31.

The company had immediatetely shut down the LPG system in the Two Serendra condominium complex minutes after the explosion, and subsequently evacuated its residents.

On Saturday, Ayala Land decided to shut down the gas system at the adjacent One Serendra condominium complex as well "for the purpose of conducting a thorough inspection and series of tests to ensure the safety and integrity of the system."

An ALI officer said authorities also inspected the gas pipes in Serendra's restaurant cluster, which is located between the two residential complexes, but decided not to shut down the system there as it is used mainly for cooking.

"This is in line with [Interior and Local Government] Secretary Mar Roxas’s recommendation for an immediate and comprehensive check on the LPG systems of all residential and commercial establishments within Bonifacio Global City to ensure that all components, including fittings and meters, are safe," the company said in a statement regarding the LPG shutdown at One Serendra.

On his Twitter account Sunday evening, Roxas said ALI president Tony Aquino informed him through text about the decision to shut down One Serendra's piped-in gas system.

Papano kung lumabas sa investigation nakalimutan ng unit owner na hindi pala nila na close properly ung stove/oven.

Kasi kung meron gas leak dapat on the first week of occupancy maaamoy na yan.

Ang centralized gas line maybe new to some of us, pero sa ibang countries very common ito at ung kanilang safety standard ay mas mababa pa sa atin.

Mas mapapabilis ata ang investigation kung tawagan na lang ang CSI (from CBS).

ALI has to wake up and get rid of incompetent people within its ranks..pay serious attention to complaints of their clients from all walks of life..yong mga patulog tulog at mga pabaya lalo na after handover of keys forcing people to sign documents para lang makaiwas sa responsibilities..more clients are not really happy with Ayala Property Mgt teams..Mr Tony Aquino, get your acts together and focus on complaints and be proactive..good riddance to those who dont perform and reward deserving ones..when you develop something start from scratch and pay attention to Contructibility (bakit ganyan ang anchoring system ng precast elements sa beams & columns or why the gas detector sensors malfunctions..) & Lessons Learned (palpak yang ganyang system of anchorage kasi bumigay na yan dati or mahina ang ganyang detector kasi me mga issues na yan) Studies...these things are done at the start of feasibility phase to FEED to DED to procurement..pag ok na ang specifications and IFC documents these will serve as the basis in producing working and shop drawings for construction to precom to commissioning to O&M..
