    i think it is a cultural thing with the chinese.
    their houses are close to their places of work.
    it saves rental, pamasahe, and time. it also negates the need to hire security.

    in binondo, in singapore chinatown, in old hongkong and other chinatowns the world over,
    the store is on the ground floor, and the residence is in the upper floor.

    i remember an old story from a real estate person.
    his current client is a successful businessman, on a buying spree.
    all their lives kasi, their definition of home was the second floor of their business address.
