Big deal ba to? People nowadays nga naman.

When I graduated in high school back in the 90s, I could get into any university I wanted to plus I have DOST scholarship. Di pa ako honors graduate nyan ha. It was just a choice between UP Diliman or ADM for me (got admission into both universities). On my junior year in high school, I got the chance to see the UP Diliman campus and I told myself I have to get into its grounds to study.

I even applied to PMA while in college and I got thru both written and physical exams with high marks. Too many opportunities for me but in life, you have to deal with whatever is thrown at you.

My friends knew about it and it wasn’t a big deal. Some of my friends did even better because they got admission to Georgetown University or UConn or Cornell or UPenn or Colombia.

Ang dapat mas viral eh the fact that most (if not all) of the Big Four did not implement an entrance examination for their college admissions for 2021, solely relying on HS grades and mathematical algorithms.

UP ang medyo nagiging.controversial ngayon kasi only about 50q of Pisay grads are admitted eh from previous years almost all passed the entrance exam.

Yan hirap sa algorithm na ginamit ay 70q grades, eh ngayon pa lang balita ko mga schools may mga students nang 98-99% ang average grades para sure na mapipili sa UP next year if ever na ganyan pa din algorithm nila. Oast 4 years ata kasi basehan ng grades, so start na sila mag-padding.

Nakakatawa, ave mo 98-99 hehehe, dadami genius sa Pinas next year.

Well Pisay also did away with entrance exams this year. I heard a story though that the daughter of the Pisay mathematician who derived the algorithm did not get admitted to Pisay.

Di talaga maaasaha king grades lang basehan. Better pa rin yung exams for admission. It gives better opportunity for everyone.

I feel like with the 100% home/online schooling set up, magsu suffer ang education ng mga bata. I could only compare it with work, pero na try na namin yan remote training and it is NOWHERE NEAR face to face training, there's too much knowledge gap on remote trainings.

Sana lahat ng student may discipline to do 100% of the work themselves and not get distracted pero dami ng posts sa FB about parents doing HW of their children. I can't imagine how it's like to study na 100% online. Sa office may online trainings kami, I don't read it as well, next next next lang ako then do the assessment test in the end I'm sure not everyone is like me, pero maraming katulad ko or even worse

allow me to lift my bench.

    "big deal."
    in our time,
    this was common enough.
    hindi lang namin masyado pinag-uusapan.
anyway, most still ended up enroling in up.
i suspect, yesteryear's come-ons were not as attractive as today's.
    heh heh.

    errr,
what are the today's top 4 universities, daw?
    i know of 3; their colors are well-known enough. what's the 4th?

    ah! thanks.
i forgot about the golden boy.

i wonder why mapwa is not on every other person's list?
they have a terrific engineering program.

two HS mates, one teaching in mapwa, and another in up, were exchanging friendly barbs.
"ewan ko ba kung bakit maraming na-de-delay sa amin..."
    "hindi kasi kayo marunong mag-turo."
    tawa lang kaming naka-rinig.

Those who passed the upcat will probably pass the other 3 exams as well.

in long-distance learning, one uses his eyes much of the time, to imbibe the knowledge and hopefully, integrate it.
in face to face, one both sees and hears..., not to mention the teacher's body language which, i believe, is very important in effectively imparting knowledge.

My brother passed UPCAT but failed ACET. He begged my parents to let him enrol at UPd but they will only let him go to UP if it's in LB for him to take agriculture. My parents would prefer for him to go to a Catholic school.

According to my older cousins who took the entrance in the 3 schools, ACET daw pinakamahirap e?

I also had to beg my parents to let me take the exam in DLSU (they didn't want me to go coed for college) UP and ADMU were out of the question because of the location and I knew I would probably fail the entrance so why bother

    statistically, yes.
but in reality, the outliers (who failed) stand out and receive various rationalizations.
there a lot of factors that can influence one's sharpness for an exam... his breakfast... traffic... GF issues... exam room comfort... health...

    i, myself,
the exam topic was one that we used to easily and regularly perfect in exams some time back.
    but this particular afternoon...
my exam answer sheet was near-blank.
for the first time in my memory,
i suffered an in-explicable mental block.

Well, somehow true for me. I found ACET more challenging than UPCAT. The language and communication parts were trickier.

If in terms of Math and Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), DOST-SEI scholarship exam is more challenging than UPCAT or ACET. For some kids though, it’s easier than going thru English or Filipino exam topics. Hehehehe

You remind me of a comment at PEx regarding the same predicament: Your parents are cruel!

it depends on one's background education.
some subjects i find easy, others find difficult.
    and vice versa.

Really? I don't have PEx account pero apparently maraming katulad ng parents ko. Not at all cruel, they give my brother everything nga, pero very conservative lang talaga

If your parents wanted you to go to a catholic all-girls college near Makati

Your choice would have only been AC or St Scho

    Thats a bit limiting

The have an issue with St Scho because they find the area outside SSC unsafe. My Dad gave in naman and let me take the entrance in DLSU and CSB. That is the maximum distance from home I am allowed to study. Pero masama loob nila [emoji23]

Cousin ko from Woodrose mas kawawa sakin, her only choice for college was AC or St Paul. Kulang na kulang sa exposure sa outside world
