I saw in the News that there is the shortage of nurses in local hospitals. Many Nursing graduates are opting to find employment in other industries as the pay in local hospitals is quite low.

the current policy of up medicine is that the graduate is required to stay in the country for the next 3 years, serving in any of the multitude of possibilities listed down in the contract signed by the applicant at the start of his medical education.
    'fair enough', in my opinion.

    as an aside,
if the worker had to pass a professional exam to practice his profession,
the employer should not salary him sa level ng minimum wager naman.

There are old complaints that local nurses especially new graduates are exploited. Since volunteer/local work/experience are needed in order to gain employment abroad and most grads goal is the latter.

    'good-quality employers' favor experienced applicants.
some hospitals offer this 'experience' to the newbie nurse, 'for a fee'.
thus so, the nurse ends up gaining the experience by working in the hospital for free, or by paying to work in the hospital.

It's primarily a combination of both. Top schools attract top students.

But the good schools also make average students that do enter better.

Agree with this. Dami intangible benefits of studying in a good school that helps even average students.

Pero sa tingin ko in this day and age IF the ONLY goal is to get rich - not personal development, building a network, values formation etc, school won't matter anymore kasi daming walang pinag aralan or galing sa regular schools na umaasenso naman (sa youtube nagugulat ako mga poor talaga living in shanties na asenso na) Punta lang ibang bansa or mag payaman through social media or magbenta online

Sa mga friends and family ko RARE yung nalampasan financially ang parents nila, and that is one of our measures of financial success

The Gen Y will have difficulty surpassing their parents, assuming the parents are decently well off. They will have to be about 50 to achieve that.

Its just the reality these days.

That’s true. Among my friends from college wala akong kilalang mas mayaman na sa parents nila.

But among my friends from high school (public school) - medyo marami-rami na rin na more financially successful na than their parents, even in their late 20s palang.

For exceptional lang DOST scholarship. Siyempre Pinas kaya whom you know matters more. Kung wala ka kailala sa loob, malabo mapansin application mo kahit magaling. Also, school support will be a major factor. If school (principal or adviser) mo mismo mag-follow-up may pag-asa din.

Lalo na walang exam for basis hehe. Goodluck, very subjective yan.

DOST scholar wife ko, wala naman siyang kakilala sa loob

I was also offered a DOST scholarship but ME in Ateneo was not under the qualified courses of DOST so I took the Ateneo scholarship instead.

I am not sure How they do things now but DOST scholarships were based off the results of an exam taken by high school seniors. Only a few per region are awarded scholarships, usually the top applicants.

I was a DOST scholar back in the 90s. The exam was for 2 hours if I remember it properly - various questions from the sciences (Chemistry, Biology, and Physics) and math (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus). There were only about 15 of us from Region XI back then, most of them were my classmates from Pisay. Most of us went to UP system as DOST would cover for everything except your dorm fees. In UP Diliman before, DOST would always schedule some social events where they gather their scholars from different regions. It was kind of a Geek party, hehehe! The only courses allowed were from the Sciences and Engineeering.
