In our company, I still filter out applications based on school records. Kahit ano gawin mo, a prestigious school name will shine out over a school you've never even heard of.

However, I place heavy emphasis on extra curricular activities. Yun hindi fabricated since it's quite easy to know if they do. I'll do a shout-out as a DLSU alumni is that I feel that too many people are flowering their resumes excessively. Not only DLSU graduates but also similarly highly-favored university graduates. Like hell I care about your XX position. I want to know results. I want to know your hardships and how you handle projects.

If you are lucky enough to survive the screening process, then it's all up to the interview selection. Since you're past the qualifications, the interview process is mainly a screening tool on whether we think you'll fit right in or not on our office environment and sometimes I do ask ridiculous questions. Isipin mo dati.. I sat down.. konting small talk.. then requested; "okay, you have 10 minutes, entertain me." Most job seekers are appalled pag ganyan kabigla and you'll see them fidget, etc. and it shows how pressure changes people.

If you can read this, thank an educator.

Not to be judgmental to other schools, pero pansin ko na on average, yung mga galing sa top university din naman talaga yung may communication skills, marunong magdala ng sarili, may depth ang sagot sa interview, at hindi trying hard. Even within a school, may mga courses na on average mas magaling ang students compared sa ibang courses.

Again, on average ha. Hindi ko nilalahat. Kaya ang advice ko eh kung pwede namang pagandahin yung chances by going into a good school, bakit hindi?

Education is indeed expensive but there's a lot of people who just can't afford to send their kids to the top universities the top companies prefer.

I came from a cheap ass university in Southern Mindanao and I can read your post just fine... My golly I must be that freaking good eh! No, I'm not going to thank my educator.

Agree ako dito. 99% sigurado na you are not the exception to the rule. Parang sweepstakes. And you don't want to waste your life hoping that you will hit the jackpot. Make your own "luck" by setting yourself up for success -- that includes getting a degree with good grades and accomplishments in school. A degree will make it easier on you to go thru life compared to most who don't graduate.

Am definitely not one of those.... If you show me that you have the potential and the right attitude,- then you're in. If not,- then it is nice meeting you....

I think we should thank our educators, whoever they may be. If a teacher taught you to read and write then you should be grateful. If your parents did, then they're your educators. However bad or inferior we think our teachers were, it cannot be denied that they did some good in our lives. Save for the very rare cases that a child was abused. (ibang story na yun) IMO if a person ever went through school, he should be grateful to his teachers, lalo na if public school. They are always overworked and underpaid.

Yes it does. By the way investment yan wag manghinayang.

Different with me, told our hr to give equal chances whatever school they came from.

My point if you only based it what schools they came from kawawa naman yun mga hinde naka afford na maka enroll doon sa top schools.

And I don't care kung galing na DLSU, ateneo, UP or UST. Youre still an applicant.

And I noticed na applicant that came from top 3 schools.

But to go back to the original question. Yes! School where you came from matters

Hindi ako galing sa mayaman na pamilya pero nakapagaral ako sa maayos na highschool at college, without paying a single cent for tuition.

Sa panahon ngayon na ang daming unemployed at maraming ka-kompetensya, every little bit helps to get you that big break.

Short medium long term plan

sa tingin ko, important na galing ka ng top schools pag wala ka pang work experience. as soon as may work experience na, hindi na important yung school.

Kaso exemptions tayo kesa norm. Sadly, marami talaga companies na prefer nila top schools. That is the reality. School does matter especially if wala kang titulo/pasado sa isang board exam.
