i define old rich as people who have carefully managed their wealth over many generations

i kinda agree with cathy re families whose businesses were established way back in the 1800s and early part of 1900s but if you apply that definition here you'd narrow them down to only a handful of families of Spanish descent

i'd say old rich here is wealth that has been in a family for at least 3 generations

    that would include more families

a friend said you'd know you're talking to old rich when they hate talking about money (new rich TOTALLY LOVE talking about money)

I fall under this class too. With the way people are "spending" nowadays, kinikilabutan din ako kung minsan!

Yes because it is never proper to converse about finances outside of business. It is considered rude to ask or talk about salary diba. Those that have to prove something like to talk about money or stuff. I dont know if they are aware that it is against the rules of etiquette.

yeah its rude to talk about money and to them material things are... well... just that and nothing more. It's very evident if you came across with the old rich. they tend to keep quiet or just dismiss topics of finance.

Marami ring riches to rags stories sa Sugarlandia no? Sa generation ng great grandparents ko, the youngest (legitimate) child who got the largest share of the mana ended up with almost nothing at the end of his life. The others made good and built their own businesses and continue to grow them up to today.

Buti pa kaming mga outcasts (yup, my line was considered outcasts back in the day), we made it on our own in Manila.

Hindi naman siguro old poor, old middle class may be apt enough. :D

This is something that I find so illogical din. I recently found out that fake designer bags sell for as much as 4k to 5k in Greenhills! Wow. You could buy a good brand bag with that amount of money with sukli pa.

totoo eto. my sister in law lives in davao may malaki sya negosyo dun and madami sya kilala na mayaman at nagmamayaman. she often go here in manila para bumili lang nang bags sa GH para ibenta nya sa davao.

Instead of working on character, people prioritise working on being rich. We live in a money centric society na. I find nothing wrong in having ambition and wanting to be rich, in fact you'd have more capacity to help people when you have more money. It becomes wrong when people do immoral and illegal acts in their quest for wealth. It seems like people are valued now based on their looks and wealth not values and character.

Kaya ayan people do what they can to project wealth.
