An officemate of mine says that their dealership (Delta Motors) has already received more than 200 reservations.

Yung isa ko ring officemate, nakapag-downpayment na. Makukuha daw niya next month yung unit.

    - Autobild, German auto magazine shows comparative driving test results in favor of Morning
    - Scored higher points for versatility, impressive interior and price competitiveness

Kia Motors’ Morning(known as Picanto elsewhere) outperformed Volkswagen Polo in German.

The latest edition of Autobild, German auto magazine said that Kia’s Morning is rated better than Polo, a globally-recognized auto brand in the comparative driving test.

In its feature story comparing Morning and Polo for functionality, specifications, price, etc., Morning scored 405 points while Polo got 400 points. Morning was rated higher than Polo for its spacious inside, excellent break control, better gas mileage, and sophisticated interior, beating its competitor Polo by a large margin.

In particular, Autobild referred to the victory of Morning, a small Korean car over Polo, the flagship compact brand in Germany, the mecca of automobile as a “sensation”, and added that Koreans showed that a compact car can satisfy all the consumer needs including price, smooth ride, and safety.

“The fact that Morning beat Polo in Germany where automobiles were first born, is a proof that the marketability and quality of Kia’s car is recognized in the global auto market”, said Yonghwan Kim, head of Kia’s Overseas Sales. “The evaluation result will be a good opportunity to strengthen Kia’s brand image as being young and dynamic” , he added.

On the other hand, Morning has won another major victory in the comparative driving test on compact models run by Autocar, British auto magazine in August. In the test, Morning was rated the best model among 10 candidates including Suzki’s Alto and Vauxhall’s Agila. Autocar commented that “Morning has both great specifications and quality, which makes it a match for Mercedez Benz S Class”.

In addition, Morning was found to be the best compact model in another driving test done by Autobuild in April in which it competed with Fiat’s Panda, and Daihatsu’s CUORE. In the story, the German auto magazine said “customers who drive Morning will be the happiest drivers”, giving Morning the highest scores in marketability, functionality and cost-efficiency.

The list of victories goes on and Morning aced other driving tests conducted by European auto magazines in Austria, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and France, causing a sensation in the European car market in its first year of launch.

Morning made its debut in Europe at the beginning of the year and a total of 21,408 units were sold in the market during the eight months to August, making it the third largest selling model among Kia cars, after Rio(27,946 units) and Sorento(26,504 units). Kia forecasts its total sales of the compact model in Europe to be 54,000 units

    Mazdamazda,

Yes, you can overtake those buses along NLE BUT it's going to be tricky. During acceleration on low kph range, the 1.1liter Picanto can easily overtake vehicles with massive engines (3.0liters +) owing to their heavier momentum. But once those trucks get up to stretch, it is difficult for this small car to keep pace. I don't bother as I prefer the leisurely 80-90kph.

At 110kph, 5th gear, the tach swings to about 3000rpm. It's still behind the 6000rpm red line which means you can push it some more. For me, while it gives more enjoyable driving experience below 100kph, it will give you the juice when you need to run faster.

Bottomline, if you are a speed driver buti pa iwan mo na ang Picanto then get your Civic or Altis out.

    Geo,

Pre pasensya na hindi ko pwedeng bigay cell number ko. If you want to know more about the Picanto, just read the previous posts here about the car. Also, in motioncars.com.

Advice ko lang, the P330th price of the Picanto is just right. If I had P600th, I'd have gotten a Vios or a City. The Picanto costs less because it does not have the more luxurious body and comfort features of those other cars- as well as the "price that goes with the name."

I am very happy with this car because it's performance, looks and practically exceeded my personal expectations. Don't take my word for it. If you can, schedule a test drive or at least sit in one in a show room when available.

PS. Not to sound boastful but whether in admiration or contempt, the Picanto is also head-turner. Folks go the parking lot and take pictures of this car with their cell phones. Perhaps the best example was, one night near SM North, the driver of a nice 2004 Honda City rolled down his window and checked out my car's logo. Magsasawa din sila dyan. In the meantime, I try to enjoy the stares. Eheheh.
