According to a forum poster at hondaclub.com.ph meron daw syang nakitang rust sa hood ng picanto when he visited a Kia showroom. I can't link dun sa post kasi hindi ako member nung club. I just saw that post from my colleague's pc who is a member. True or not, I suggest you take a good look at your engine compartment and check. I wash and examine my car everyday and I saw no sign of said rust. Still flawless, hehehe. I intend to have my Picanto rustproofed and undercoated some time later.

Mahirap talagang pumili between a good brand 2nd-hand car (old model Altis) vs a still, quite unpopular name but fresh car (newcomer Kia Picanto) for about the same price. I nearly sealed a deal for a 98 Corolla XE myself before I saw and chose the Picanto. No regrets. Ultimately, ikaw lang talaga ang makapag-decide which is the best choice based on your investment, purpose, and your tolerance for the hassle of forced repair and maintenance (mostly on 2nd-hands.)

M/T or A/T? I think the "life" of both transmissions are about even except that when it comes to first cost and repair, A/T is definitely a pocket buster for some. It's only fair. That's the price you have to pay for it's convenience and ease of use.

I checked the website, hindi clear kung kasya ang 26inches na height through the hatch. Buti ka pa, maliit lang ang dog crate. Let me guess... your dog is a Dax?

Jaemee: I think your expectations were a bit too high, you really can't blame the website as well. Just like an Altis, Lancer, Civic, etc... The website will feature the top of the line model, not the base models, it's a show case eh.

Kia brought in the base model to lower its risk and increase chances of market penetration, regardless of what the amenities are with the car, the main review of the vehicle will be its chassis, engine, brakes and quality.

All of which are available and similar across all model line-ups.

You'll expect BMW to showcase the M5, 540i etc but will mention very little of 520i since it's a lower model.

You get what you pay for ika-nga. If your budget for a bnew car is under 400,000 for example, having all those "nice to have" items like ABS, dual airbags, power windows, etc will not fit your bill... Same thing as to getting a cellphone, if your budget is for a regular LCD screen cellphone, but you expect to be able to squeeze in a color LCD with digicam features, it just won't happen... Costs add up as features and accessories are added in.

about chosing a car, hirap nga mag-decide, syempre mas OK kung brand new diba, kaya dun sa specs na sinabi ko para ngang sobra-sobra naman nilang tinipid yng unang labas na picanto. i mean, how much ba if for example a brand new kia pride ngayon with that specs? malamang mas mura diba, pero brand new pa rin. not sure though pero un ung ibig ko sabihin, para lng syang pinagandang kia with that specs. sana nga wag naman nila tipirin yng ilalabas nila na europe version.
pero medyo napag-isip din ako sa mga advices nyo guys, i might consider the picanto din cguro. i still wna see it first. check ko d2 pasong tamo.

thanks sa advice. you're right. kainis nga lng tlaga, shock. pero i might get the picanto nlng nga since bnew sya and cheap. i need a car na din talaga na spacious, useless sakin yng porsche since it's only a 2 seater, kaya namin sya binebenta na din. it was my husbands car nung single pa sya, 5 years ago till we got married nga and had a kid, we wanted to get a bigger car nga since our family is growing but we cant give up the porsche just bcoz of the fact that its still porsche and i dont think we can ever get one again if we let go of it. but now sa dami tlaga ng gastos and to tell you honestly, ndi biro pala magmentain ng porsche, napakagastos, lalo na ngayon pinapalitan ng husband ko yng carb ng twin side.
kaya ngyn dapat maging praktikal.

but remember, that 21km/l was obtained with a lot of highway/out-of-town travel... the picanto may be able to reach that level. It just remains to be seen. :D

my husband bought it 5 years ago, it was formerly owned by a politician (late president). porsche 914 1972 model. we were planning to sell it at 700K (neg). we jst had everything fixed, bnew wiring, the upholstery, the carb, the spark plugs, the flooring, fuel pump, fuel filter, ignition coil para lng maging great condition sya. its in good condition but we wanted it to be tlagang ok na ok syempre its an old car na dba. wla sna sa plan namin na ibenta after having everything restored kaya lng now that it has twin carb na, magastos sa gas. and mahirap mag mentain ng porsche.

anyway, i went to kia nung tuesday nga, isaw picanto and it was great tlaga, pwede na rin. pero what botherd me was that sold out na daw yng 1st 100 units na dumating and the next 300 units daw would have black bumpers of different material, as in parang yng kia pride bumpers, not the same color as the body yng bumpers nya. tapos yng wheel daw wlang cover and wla yng tray at the back of the rear seats. i asked them bka pwede irequest na same unit as ung nirelease nila ngyn, sabi nila ndi daw nila mapapangako. if gusto ko daw, ipa-paint ko nlng daw yng bumper sa labas tapos bili nlng daw ako nung cover nung rim and yng tray. hassle pa noh.

having second thoughts now.

Jaemee: Kung the price of the later models (black bumpers) are 10K cheaper or more, ok lang yun, basta parehas lahat ng ibang feature, pwede mo papinta sa magaling na shops for 5-7K front and rear, mas mura padin diba... :D
