Drove wifey's Innova 2.5 D-4D with my family, on the other hand. Both my sister's family and us were occasionally speeding at 80-120 km per hour to-and-from the Santa Rosa-Tagaytay road almost overtaking every vehicle on the road (name them - trucks, buses, a Tucson, Hi-Ace, Monterosport, Starex, Adventure, Innova, D-max, Hilux, etc etc) and on our way back to Manila from Calamba, Laguna after our Tagaytay Highlands.

The D-max clocked in a total of 270.3 km. Total litres of fuel consumed after refilling from the fully-filled tank reckoned at the end of our excursion-outing was 19.65 litres of Shell V-Power Nitro diesel. Average fuel mileage for the D-max is 13.76 km per litre or 7.27 litres per 100 km in a combined city-driving, a bit of SLEX stretch, a lot of provincial hilly roads and some steep hilly roads, while the Innova 2.5 D-4D that i was driving consumed more fuel - visually, the D-max consumed less than 1/4 of its fuel tank, while the Innova 2.5 D-4D, almost 1/2 of its fully-filled fuel tank was consumed. Refilling was done the morning after, by the way folks, and i didn't fill up the Innova anymore as i wanted to save some cash and not keen on finding out its consumption apart from the fuel-gauge meter hehe ;)

The 2004 engine model Isuzu 3.0 4JJ1-TC engine is really a frugal-sipper even in steep hillclimbs and in occasional upak ng silinyador - satisfied owner here, and my brother-in-law is thinking of buying my D-max haha!

    Cheers!

Nice. How fast were you going hill climbing the tagaytay highlands?

I was a there 2 weeks ago and made a mistake of bringing my 1996 Mitsubishi L200 instead of the hilux or fortuner. The truck was not loaded and I only had 1 passenger. From the go kart track area going up, I even turned the aircon off to muster every power from the 72hp NA 2.5litre 4d56 engine. Speeds varied from 35 to max of 55kph. On the steepest part, it can only go as fast as 30kph at 2nd gear. I even experienced power loss after the golf course and had to settle to 2nd gear at 35kph.

I will have to bring it to a calibration center to clean out injectors and probably replace the nozzle tips. Black some is emitting if I put the pedal to the metal

Don't know chief what gears my brother in law was into during the series of climbs in Tagaytay Highlands - he was the one driving my D-max. In the Innova however, i was anywhere between 2nd, 3rd and seldom in 4th. In the wider roads of Tagaytay Highlands, i was mostly in 3rd climbing, but in the narrow paths i was in 2nd and 3rd when climbing.

Quite possibly, brod-in-law might also be at the same gear with the D-max as i was with the Innova, though i really don't know ---- To be honest, i don't even know how he drives a diesel car (as he'd always driven gasoline-fed ones) ....

    1. If he's a traction-type of guy (a bit more speed at low-gear such that while he's got more speed, he also has better traction at disposal, and less-straining of the engine); or

    2. If he's a gear higher type-of-guy compensated by a bit of increase in engine-rpm such that he prevents the engine from stalling and not straining it as much since he's matching the higher gear with more accelerator pedal press to gain more rpm; or

    3. If he's lugging it at a gear higher, then he jars a bit the crankshaft prior to downshifting.

If you ask me chief, i am a mix of the first two, where in item 2, as long as it's within reasons, but i like reving up a bit more in low gears prior to upshifting in hillclimbs, or staying a bit more in low gears as described in item 1. Don't like drivers that does item 3 - they shouldn't be allowed to drive at all, or they should just be limited to auto-trannies haha! i hope my brother-in-law didn't do item 3 in my D-max though haha!

Just a hindsight, in December 2010 when we went up Baguio City via the Marcos Highway, i was breezing anywhere between 75 kph to around 85 kph at 4th-gear with the D-max (2000 to around 2250 rpm). In tight hairpins or switchbacks, however, i actively downshifted to 3rd-gear and back to 4th again - i don't apply brakes in curves. I tried climbing using 5th-gear along Marcos Highway, but that was just a short stretch, we're almost at the gates of Baguio City already. My fuel mileage was 13.4 km per litre if i remember it right. Fuel used was Petron Turbo Diesel. Wala pang Shell V-Power Nitro Diesel kasi eh that time hehe

    Cheers sir!

Today, pulley has been replaced successfully, but not by diy, coz I really did not make it even if I tried twice. So I just brought it on a nearby shop and with the labor charge of 350.00. It really has a big difference on using a worn out pulley and a new replacement. The worn out has a sway play of several degree angle and reduce at high rpm but still very noticeable sway, while after replacement, no sway can be observed, so it reduces engine rattling. Take note, the mechanic did not remove Fan, Fan cover, to do it, only the belts though.

my ride is 2001 Crosswind XTO with 150k ODO. this week i had my nozzle serviced at Mr. Diesel Calibration

at Pasig. Share ko lang for the past 7 years itong ride ko hindi naman gaanong mausok pag high rev lang

parang black with a little white smoke and maayos naman power i have no issues except yung mabahong

amoy ng usok like unburned fuel. lately malala na ( the smoke i think will still pass naman sa mga nanghuhuli ng smoke belching) iba na amoy and i felt my fuel consumption is higher than a few months back. So i pinacheck ko sabi ng calibration okay naman hind naman mausok and clean lang ng nozzle injectors. after cleaning nawala yung malakas na amoy ng unburned fuel and nawala usok, I rev it hard
walang usok. I was surprised i thought after cleaning may usok pa rin kahit kaunti. even my companion who

is a mechanic was surprised. observe ko fuel consumption ko these coming days.

Also last week i replaced my Evaporator. actually hindi naman sira yung luma, hirap lang magpalamig on
a hot day. puede sana cleaning lang but suggest ng aircon tech better to replace na lang kasi na repair na niya dati yung evap. have it serviced at Cool Attack Pasig. so far malamig naman
