ganda na talaga ang Getz 2006 parang euro car na ang dating. Anyway I'm still happy with our 1.3MT 2005 Getz , So far although we incountered some problem before it was corrected already

Hello. I didn't realize there was a thread like this already until I tracked a poster in one of the other forums to this thread. :-D Lucky he mentioned he was driving a Getz.

I bought a 05 1.1L Vivid Yellow last February 11. I actually was being sold the 1.4 until I just before closing the deal, I was told they didn't have any '06 cars in yet and was told that they wouldn't be arriving 'till early March (I was nearing the end of my offdays already so I was in a rush to atleast get to ride my new baby for 1-2 weeks before leaving). So I asked them what they've got and they were suggesting their displayed black 1.5CRDi, but I declined. So they tried to source for other options from their other branches and they found me 2. 1 yellow and 1 red, which were BTW my color preferences (last option was black). Then after a minute or so, my dealership corrected that the red was sold just the day before. So I told them I'd like to see the yellow first before closing the deal since I wasn't too sure how it'd look like. If I didn't like, well, I'll just have to cancel the deal and wait 'til my next vacation (roughly July) to purchase a car. Fortunately, I liked their yellow, not so taxi-ish.

And so my "Diana" was "born" 3 days before February. :-D In a way, I think it was a fortunate turn of events since I actually preferred the look of the 05 over the face lifted 06. But I like the 06's bumpers, do you think I could fit change mine to that of the 06's :-D just a thought.

The dealership I got Diana from gave me several freebies too. They almost had me though for selling it to me for the prevailing 2006 price. Thank God I inherited my mom's ability to haggle. :-D

The following week I got my CDLS and alarm installed. Towards the weekend got my Spoiler/HMSL (7000++), Mudguards (1600++), Door Visors (2500) from my another Hyundai dealership in L.U. I'm still trying to get hold of the luggage screen, net, board and fog lamps from this same dealership with no news yet whatsoever. So maybe I'll just get the luggage screen, net and board from Makati (it's a no brainer installation anyway, right?). And once home, drive my Getz to Makati and get my fog lamps installed. Anybody got this Glenn Mallari's hp no. or email add?

Replying to older posts, if you guys don't mind, if I compare the Picanto (which I almost got, had I gone desperate with no Gets at hand to purchase) to the Getz, I actually feel more comfortable in the Picanto's driver seat. That's it. But the more spacious interior, boot, versatile rear seat configurations and power windows of the Getz (versus the Picanto's) that I liked the most.

Speed, so far I've managed to get speeds up to 140kph.

Power, enough power IMHO, drove it with up to Baguio, 2 adults plus a boot load. No hassle. Drove it in rolling country with 4 adults and a kid and a loaded boot. No hassle. With A/C on all the time to add.

I've seen references to 16" and 17" wheels in this thread and I'm wondering, isn't this what's listed on the wheel options (stamp on the door sill)
    Rim Size Wheel Size
    4.5 jx13 155/80r13
    5.0 jx13 155/80r13
    5.0 jx14 165/65r14
    5.5 jx14 175/65r14
    5.5 jx15 185/55r15
    4.0 Tx14 T105/70D14
Wouldn't the 16 and 17s be too tight? 'Coz I'm planning on changing it maybe to the OEM 15 or 14 alloys (so that it's still purely Hyundai). In relation to wheel size change, I've been told by a mechanic and my gf's older brother that there isn't actually any need for recalibration 'coz the "ODO and the Speedo aren't connected to the wheels", or something to that effect. I would like to verify this 'coz if I do get to change my tyres, sometime towards the end of the year maybe, I'd like the ODO and the Speedo to be still as accurate. Heck, what's the point of getting data from them if they're not accurate...IMHO. Plus I intend to install the Pioneer AVG-VDP1 sometime towards the end of this year, y'see.

Mileage, well I haven't really done a thorough check yet but I did notice though that before my first 1K km, she seemed to be more of a gas guzzler contrary to what the ads say. After the PMS though, everything seemed better. I'll do a check again on my next vacation.

As per the brakes, clutch, accelerator and knocking problems. I didn't seem to have experienced (or noticed) them during my last vacation. I did notice that the reverse doesn't seem to engage correctly ones or twice previously (or maybe that's just me...). A second fault I noticed was the horn. It happened to me a couple of times that the horn would suddenly not function. Until I finally lost it and showed it to my dealership and got it fixed. I ran into another getz owner who says he's had that problem too and he says that it seems to be a known problem with the getz.

Tailgate actuator: I didn't have mine installed 'coz I was thinking that since the hatch didn't have a door latch inside and that connecting the actuator would mean disabling the use of the key as from the outside, I wouldn't want that to be unopenable should my CDLS malfunction or something. But I'm still open on that subject though, especially now that my next vacation would be during the rainy season.

    And some ?s...

I'm also planning to add the rear wiper option. Has anyone tried this yet? Where will they drill the hole for the wiper on? Coz on the higher variants, they're on the glass (if I remember right). And does this mean they have to change the wiper control also to that with the separate switch for the front and rear wipers? I'm still waiting for the parts advisor's (whom i queried) comments regarding this.

Can the getz be fitted with abs/esp, srs airbags (pardon my ignorance)? Are there available side marking lights available for the Philippine version of Getz too? Oh, and does anybody know also where I could get the side mirror and door handle covers (so I can match them with my Diana's paint work instead of the usual black for the 1.1)?

TIA...now I'll get back to reading through pages 13-24 of this thread. :-P

PS: I've been itching to commend and bicker about two Hyundai dealers I encountered. Is that possible here? :-D

So long as the overall outer diameter of your tire has not changed (e.g. you went to bigger rims, but switched to lower profile tires), you speedo/odo won't be out of whack. Do note however that even with OEM wheels and tires, the speedo and odo are not really that accurate. There is still a large tolerance. Significan calibration problems usually happen to off-roaders who substitute bigger tires.

I put in a tailgate actuator on the Picanto (which shares the locking mechanism with the Getz). Trust me, you can still use the key. Unless you have it installed by a baboon or something.

You can put in a rear wiper system without replacing the control stalk. But you'd have to use dedicated buttons on the dashboard. That's what we did with our Land Cruiser. We used Toyota switches from another vehicle to keep it looking stock. Your best bet would be controls from early Hyundai vans since some model's rear wiper controls were not integrated in the control stalk.

No, you cannot retrofit ABS, EBD, SRS. Unless you spent an inordinate amount of cash and find a dealer willing to do it. Check out the Tucson thread. They were able to source the OEM Euro fender lamps for the Tucson. For painting, you don't need covers, you paint on the plastic handle and mirror case itself.

I see. would it be asking too much to ask your help regarding how to read the tire and wheel ratings? For example the following, 5.5 jx15 185/55r15, what do these things tell me? I've got a hunch but figured maybe, given your expertise, you could enlighten me.TIA

I guess I'll have to look for somebody else to fit me that tailgate actuator then. 'Coz the place where I had my CDLS installe said they'd have to un-hook that thingy (y'know that "wire" the actuator clips on to to pull the lock) from some sort of a "latch" connected to the key hole. Say, have you got any pic or something to slap them with? Or should I just do the non-violent approach and just look for somebody else? :-D

I see. Hmm...so I guess it's say to assume then that the stalk is "sold separately". And uh, does this mean they'll drill the system onto the metal part? (stupid question? )

So what you're saying is if I want an indepent control for the rear wiper, I need to purchase the "switch" also? Or can I just gang it with the current wire. Sorry, a bit slow.

Good, that settles the argument then. Thanks.

Uh, sorry, I think I should have rephrased my question. What I was looking for for the handle and mirror case were "covers" (much like the chrome garnishes) to match my current finish.

BTW: t-h-a-n-k-s a-l-o-t for the prompt reply. Now i can sleep in peace. Until tomorrow...:-D

I think www.tyrerack.com has a tire calculator. Basically, a 185/55r15 tire is a tire that is 185mm wide. The height of the side walls is 55% of 185 and is known as the ASPECT RATIO. 15 refers to the rim size intended for the tire. 5.5 jx15 means a 5.5 inch wide tire that is 15 inches across.

Sorry, I didn't take a pic before they closed the rear door trim after installing the actuator. It actully uses the 'rod' for the keyhole to actuate locking and unlocking. The one your dealer says they will have to remove.

The Getz rear wiper is glass drilled. I don't know if there is metal underneath that has to be drilled to. How you will wire it up is up to you. If you have an illustration of the wiring harness, they can usually locate the wire for the rear wash wipe. In my case, we didn't have the manual. New wiring was put in.

I'm no fan of chrome garnishes. They wear out prematurely as they are not built to OEM specifications.

it's unfortunate that the glass needs to be drilled to install the rear wiper... delikado kung magkamali at baka mabasag pa ang glass..

i wonder why they did not made a slot for this (if i'm not mistaken, merong slot for the washer) at the mfg plant considering that the 1.3 model already have this..

hmmm.. could be because they don't want a covered hole in rear windshield

last time I check, lahat nakaabang (washer, motor space, etc.), except yung sa glass nga na kung saan ikakabit yung wiper arm mismo.
