Overtaking na walang kaba kapag may kasalubong LOL
How fast have you gotten your Crosswind to go? Drove a friend's XUV unit back in 2006 and it maxed out on NLEX at about 120 kph with just 2 of us on board. That was pretty challenging on MacArthur and the Camiling route to Lingayen, but then you could overtake with some preparation.

CVT's rep is pedal to the metal driving. So he'd probably eat my CRDi up with this TCi unit. And that's a good gauge for the TCi unit as well as CVT's right foot.

fastest i did was around 135-140 at SCTEX coming from Ilocos. 3 pax incl driver. at that speed, a starex crdi zipped byus w/o a sweat.

main complaint ko lang dito is quick overtaking baka dahil AT kasi. surprisingly, okay naman sa mga climbs (atimonan, mayon). maybe because of the Alco injection.

I think the GS is stable on panic braking. Haven't felt it twitch doing some evasive manuevers and braking. That heft and width did wonders for stability vs the Gen 3. I think that would've twitched in a heartbeat, owing to the fact that the engine is CRDi but the brakes were still (supposedly) meant for the Gen 2 TDIC engine.

I don't think the GS TCi is underpowered. Sure it pales in comparison with the Bread Van Racing Club stalwart CRDi VGT model, but it stacks up with the current HiAce line, which I haven't heard any major complaints on speed. Well, except of course when SG compared his SG drive vs a GS. Ayun, goodbye bunot!
Oo nga, bro.,- sa LTO Lipa nga yata kine-claim ang lisensiya sa south.....

Pero for sure yang steady 100kph is a walk in the park for even the TCi. And that's just right, or perhaps even a bit too fast, for the provincial highways leading to the north or south.

    Good to know that.

depende sa oras, kayang humataw bandang ilocos sur dun sa mga long straight stretches. wala pang risk of overspeeding ticket. can save an hour or so din sa travel time.

    *14myXUV,

Perhaps the only handicap vs the Avanza is the GS's size. But as the roads along MacArthur highway are being widened, you should have enough room to stretch the GS's legs and hit 100+ kph. I would think with the replies on this thread, your fears on engine performance have been addressed.

Mae-exercise ulit ang GS namin tomorrow....

Punta kami ng Manaoag in the morning, then simba and then back to Manila just after noontime....

Kwidaw ulit sa overspeeding sa NLEX at SCTEX...

Indeed. Thanks for the generous inputs from actual GS users (reliable info). We actually narrowed down to GS and Escapade. I have the former ahead when it comes to maintenance cost (lower). But considering that we're talking of non CRDi starex, maybe the difference is not that big. I was in a auto sales shop yesterday and I was told by seller that CRDi would greatly benefit from at least semi-Synth oil. I guess that's one big factor driving the CRDi maintaining cost.

Also, i was shown a starex Gold 10seater, and realized just now napa ka flexy pala ng seating config. Can easily convert to 12 by adding a pair of bucket seats + jumpseat. May slide pa for greater leg room if needed.

In separate thread, i shared my bumpy experience with Toyota vans (kaya out sya sa shortlist namin). I can attest on the superior ride of the Crosswind -- that includes comparison to Fortunater too. I was expecting Urvan, using elip leafsprings, should be as soft (kaya nga siguro may airplane effect kapag loaded). But how would you compare or describe Starex ride? (saw some comments na bumpy din daw).

Hope di pa OT itong mga additional questions ko. ;)

Sipol kapag cruising at dasal kapag overtaking. ;) For our needs okay naman sya, considering that AT was a factor for my driving Mrs. (non-debatable issue yan LOL)

I can't recall if you mentioned that getting a gray market unit is an option, but I would ask you to consider it for more seating flexibility. I believe gray market units come as 11 or 12 seaters, with the option to slide out a row to make the seating 9 or 10 max.

HARI units come in as 10 or 12 seaters, no option to just slide a row out.

Bro.,- I normally would take the Luisita exit at SCTEX and then take McArthur Hiway (walang traffic masyado rito pag weekday).

And then, turn left (on the third traffic light) at Urdaneta... This road takes you directly to Manaoag Church.....

not bumpy. baka yung older starex yun 2003 below. yung 2004 grx maalon sa likod, at kahit maliit na humps you need to slow down kasi it will throw the rear up a lot. grand starex is firmer than grx and also longer wheel base so yung maliliit na humps di na ko nagme-menor, i just drive right over and the rear does not even go up much. i have also driven the GS over rough roads (gravel to fist sized rocks) and di naman matagtag.

it also depends on your tyre pressure. take note that when they shipped the cars from korea the tyre pressures are at maximum. so if you test drive one you will say matagtag, pero that is because the tyres are inflated to the max. you need to reduce the pressure until you get the ride firmnest or softnest you want.

ginagawa yung northbound side ng mcarthur sa gerona last time i passed. pero taking magilas then to ramos and out at gerona is also not an option since the part of macarthur under construction is also where you will exit from ramos. so yes, after sctex left turn to tarlac city then right to macarthur. scratch the magilas-ramos longcut for now.

the 3rd stop light that cvt mentioned is the one with the Norkis Yamaha dealership on the left opposite side.

Just bought half a liter of radiator coolant from Hyundai Binan Laguna...

Brand is Wurth.... Recommended mix(dosage) is 1L of coolant for every 8L to 12L of water....

    Price is P270....

Ganito rin bang brand sa ibang HARI branches?

thanks for pointing out HARI and gray sources on seating. I checked and only HARI offers TCI. Sadly, too, wala pa akong mahanap na showroom na may 12seater. I was thinking na better to get 12seater now. I just wanted to make sure that seating is not that cramped for all the rows. I think small luggages can be stowed under the seats?
