Some 8 years ago,- while going on a spirited drive uphill along Marcos Hiway, I got our Gen3 Starex TCI A/T, into limp mode(max rev at 2KRPM; no aircon et al), with the check engine light on....It happened on the last continuous incline just before entering the city proper of Baguio.... I went to the side of the road, turn off the engine after idling for a couple of minutes, and then let the engine cool down for about 15-20minutes, started the engine without any issue and off we went for our vacation,- not encountering the same issue, until I sold the ride a little over 3 years ago....

Well.......I encountered the same thing again, while going uphill from Talisay, Batangas to Tagaytay City..... this time on our Gen4 GS TCI A/T.... It happened halfway going up to Tagaytay in a practically no man's land, but with regular traffic... I did the same things described above, but the engine would not crank....And so, I disconnected the battery for at least 10 minutes, reconnected it and attempted to start the engine,- same thing... Lastly, out of desperation,- I shorted the vehicle connectors for 5-10minutes, reconnected them to the battery terminals and attempted to start the engine,- and it did! Whew!

Going uphill,- I was more careful in observing my rev - limiting it to a maximum of 2.5KRPM, but it was ohhhhh soooo slowwwww,,, I am sure that later, I will forget this incident and will drive a lot more spirited.....

All the time, I was in contact with Hyundai Las Pinas, and they have already sent a crew to help me, at the time I was able to start the engine..... Anyway, it felt a lot more comfortable, just talking to the experts in that time of distress, even if I was taking all of the initiatives... I was on an almost full tank, with a kid, 3 ladies, and 3 men and a tightly packed bag area.... Going back home, after going around Tagaytay and surrounding areas,- no issue with the ride... Hopefully it stays that way....

Getting this from the other thread, I was thinking,- and this is an observation from someone, who is not an expert,- would a Euro IV diesel (in a EuroIII [TCI] engine) be a contributor to this?

I noticed that it happened after the uphill climb in a short time only, around 6-10minutes lang...

Oo nga bro.,- tight turns talaga ito. Walang masyadong buwelo... I am (quite) familiar with this road because there was a time in the past that we pass by this road every weekend...

It was a good thing that our ride "recovered", although not as swift as I was expecting it, based on my previous experience on the same type of issue on the Gen3....

As of this moment, everything's going well with our GS. No sign of the issue we encountered last Tuesday afternoon.... Although wifey was ribbing me that "ooppppsssss you did it again....... "... :hysterical:

Used it on the skyway,- to and from T3, last night on the limit, very smooth....

Further to this, even if I was running the engine at high rev... The driver of the companion vehicle who was following me did not notice any smoke coming out of my tailpipe.... I asked him before the climb to observe that.... Way to go for a TCI diesel engine powered by UniOil Euro IV diesel.

Iyon nga lang, ganoon pa rin ang sakit ng Hyundai TCI diesel engine para sa mga uphill climb (na may driving style na katulad ko)... check engine.....
