Used to own a Gen3 GRX TCi and now GS TCi... Same capacity - 2.5L engine but I think the layout is different, probably because GS TCi is EuroIII compliant but GRX TCi,- I don't know,- no information.

Also, GRX TCi has a scoop for the intercooler, which is parallel to the ground (and big, like >1ft x >1ft in dimension), while for the GS TCi, it is perpendicular and small and just behind the grill.....

Four generations na ang Starex. If memory serves me right:

    - Gen 1. Came with the 2.6L NA, 2.5L TD and I can't recall what output was for the petrol version. 2.7L ata

    - Gen 2. Millenium model. It had a 2.5L TDIC engine. I had come across a Gen 2 with a CRDi engine already, though this was not too common.

    - Gen 3 - Big eyed and "skull faced", and Big eyed and "cat-faced" models. These have 2.5L CRDi models without VGT, and with about 30 horses less than the GS. Some models came with the 2.5L TDiC engine. and

    - Gen 4 - GS with 2.5L TCi and CRDi with VGT

Sorry, I can't remember what years these units were released though.

In terms of engines, there were:
    1) Gen 1 2.7L petrol
    2) Gen 1 2.6L naturally aspirated diesel
    3) Gen 1 2.5L turbodiesel
    4) Gen 2 2.5L turbodiesel intercooler
    5) Gen 2 2.5L CRDi
    6) Gen 3 2.5L turbodiesel intercooler
    7) Gen 3 2.5L CRDi
    8) GS 2.5L TCi
    9) GS 2.5L CRDi

I'm not sure if the 2.5L CRDi engines are the same powerplants that have been massaged/modified to make more power. Or if the 2.5L TD and TDIC are the same ones as well.

Galing lang ako sa Hyundai EDSA and as expected they can't give me info about the engine except that TCi means Turbo Charged Intercooler. He also claims it is non CRDi. Current model pala has 8 variant to choose. From TCi 10 seater to Limousine CRDi. Engines are 2.5L TCi SOHC 8V , 2.5L CRDi WGT DOHC 16V , 2.5L CRDi VGT DOHC 16V. TCi 10 seater is a practical choice easier to maintain dark interior pa hindi dumihin. Kamusta naman kaya performance? Hindi ba masyadong bitin? Thanks!

    *CVT,IMm29 Thanks sa info.

CVT will vouch for the TCi's performance. Going up Baguio at that. Hehehe!

Sorry bro.,- ngayon ko lang nabasa...

IMO, Gen4 TCi AT is better in terms of power and handling (and suspension) vs. Gen3 TCi AT. Both have the same power, but we guess it could be due to the better gearing setting of the Gen4 AT. Overtaking, the Gen3 takes forever,- the Gen4 has a lot more power, (strangely since they have the same HP rating; but Gen4 is heavier by some 500Kg) IMO....

Just do not hard drive the engine to more than 3.5KRPM all of the time during climbs.... My suggestion is just to limit it to 3KRPM.... for your own sake...

I did that (>3.5KRPM) on our few-month old Gen3 some 8 years ago along Marcos Hiway in Baguio. I overtook all vehicles that came my way during that climb....During the last long climb a couple of Km before Baguio General Hospital,- the ride went into limp mode (with the check engine light on) and I could only do 2KRPM with no power...

I did that again (>3.5KRPM) on our 3 year old Gen4 a couple of months ago along the steep climb road from Talisay Batangas to Tagaytay.... Practically, no other vehicle on that road. Same thing, the ride went into limp mode with the check engine light on and no power...

Both rides recovered after some "20-30 minutes" of letting the engine cool off (engine off).....I'll leave it at that....

Power? I do not see any issue with my ride not because of pride, but because this is my honest opinion... But then of course, the VGT variant has 75% more horses than the TCi,- and it makes a lot of difference, no doubt... Nevertheless, again,- I am happy with my TCi's 100 horses....

But I find that the MT is a more solid drive vs the AT on straights (hindi bitin sa overtake rin),- not sure why.....

    * Ang bitin sa akyat at sa arangkada,- iyong aking Vanette,- pero pinaka-love ko siya..... hahaha!...

sir CVT,, have you heard of anyone with the CRDi variant having that problems that you had? or with the CRDi engine you dont really need to reach 3.5k rpm to get that power boost..

I can agree with you on that bro on the M/T.,- you may need to downshift and rev it when doing the climb....

Kasi sa A/T tapak lang ako sa silinyador,- and it will "do the math" for me....

Hehehe! Di naman Cel ang pangalan ni misis.

Have u tried Euro IV diesel on your TCi? I noticed the difference on the CRDi GS with Euro 2 after having used Euro IV. With the non-CRDi Prado, parang wala naman diff.

I am using UniOil EuroIV for our TCi bro, since about 3-4 months ago.

The earlier advantage in fuel consumption that I reported was not sustained,- but I feel the engine running smoother... Again, this may be just me and my imagination....

(The TCi engine is rated EuroIII)

There was a bit better response on the CRDi. Perhaps it has to do with the smoother delivery. Checking out the fuel mileage. Parang mas mabilis maubos yung Euro IV. But then, baka naiba lang ang gala namin.

May bagong tayo ng Total Gas Station dito sa may labasan.... around 1Km from our place. Anyone here knows kung ano ang Euro rating ng krudo nila? (Low sulphur diesel sila as they claim)....

Iyon kasing UniOil, around 3Km away from our place.... Dinarayo ko pa....

Total has long been stating "Low Sulfur Diesel". Never said Euro IV or the like, so I supposed Euro II. Didn't quite agree with my GS though, so after I try, did not try again.

Caltex is supposedly getting Euro IV diesels already, but not consistently yet, and not for all service stations. We tried asking for what service stations in particular, they couldn't give a list yet.

Iyon nga bro.,- dapat mag-advertise sila o i-announce nila kung ano ang level ng kanilang mga produkto, based on international standards for the information and benefit of the consumers.....

It is good that UniOil is being maverick on this. Hoping that the other big companies are going to follow soon....
