Hi, newbie lady here, with tsikot and with cars. I'd like to get an elantra later this year or mid next year. I'll be using it daily to work and weekly to go home to Cavite. Pahelp naman po on a few things please...
1. Where in the metro is the best Hyundai dealership? Most of the thread I read recommends to go to at least 4 dealers to compare, I'd like to go to the top 4 you'd reco.😊
2. what is a better option for me, 1.6 MT, 1.6 AT or 1.8 AT?
3. Is it true that if you don't have the PMS with the casa, void na agad ung warranty ng car?
Thanks for all your inputs in advance! 😊
*rhythmwhispers:
1. I got mine from Manila Bay, no complaint but I had my first 2 PMS at Global City, which wasn't too bad either. Although many say that Dasmarińas is one of the better dealers.
2. If you have the budget, the price difference between the 1.8AT and 1.6AT is well worth it.
3. I think this applies to all car brands here in the PH.
2. Personal Preference with budget constraints. Do you like driving MT? AT? What are your considerations when buying a car? Fuel efficiency? Power? Features & Toys? Budget? You'll need to give us more information if you want us to help you decide.
3. This is true to an extent. The car warranty is not all or nothing. If for example you don't have the PMS with the casa, and something PMS-related fails, this will no longer be covered by warranty. These probably deal with the more important parts though - such as the engine, transmission, etc. However, for other items such as maybe car electronics, I *suppose* they should honor the warranty. But since you have stated you are new with cars, I reckon you should find the budget to have your car serviced at the casa.
Hope this helps.
Hi sir mda. Thanks for your reply. Here are the details you mentioned...
Do you like driving MT? AT? - I'm yet to learn real driving unless we'll count Daytona and go kart as driving hehehe. I'm more inclined with AT though coz of the conveniences it offers.
What are your considerations when buying a car? Fuel efficiency? Power? Features & Toys? Budget? - Fuel efficiency is on the top of my list. Budget should be less than 1M. Safety would be nice since I'm really very new to it. Uhmm... Looks ☺I'm in love with the looks of elantra. Power? I'm not sure, I think I have a tendency on being a 'kaskasera' so it would be nice if it has it.
Thanks again!
Have you considered the other cars in the segment?
When canvassing kasi, one should also take note of the maintenance costs involved aside from the up-front payment. Kadalasan kasi, up-front price lang yung nakikita.
To add further information, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Hyundai require a 5K KMs/3 months (whichever comes first) maintenance interval, while with Honda, you can do 10k/6 months interval. For the former 3 brands, the oil is good for 10K KMs/6 months; but will be changed if you go past 5K on the every 3 month checkup. BETTER CLARIFY THIS WITH THE DEALERS.
I'd also recommend you get a maintenance schedule with the costs of each car so that you can better weigh its pros and cons/cost of ownership over the length of time you expect to own the car. With my experience with Toyotas, Hondas and Hyundais, the Hyundais tend to have higher maintenance costs than the Toyotas and the Hondas. (You shouldn't take my word for it! Go verify this with your own research!)
I think most cars with the 1.6L option don't really lack in power nowadays. Do you really need the extra 200cc of engine power? If you run a lot on the highway and do a lot of overtaking, then I guess it's justifiable. But from what I hear, the 1.6AT isn't a snail either.
Fuel efficiency + kaskasera doesn't really mix. The best fuel saving device is really the weight of your right foot ;) If you remove that from the equation, you'll probably want to go with the Altis 1.6 or the Elantra 1.6. These variants will be sipping gas much less than the 1.8L competition.
With regards to safety features, you should be looking for the airbags, abs+ebd options. Most compact cars nowadays have this but some have airbags only for the driver. The Elantra 1.6MT only has single airbag (driver), same as the Altis G variant and lower. Everything else comes with dual airbags and abs+ebd standard.
**Note, I am not biased for nor against the Elantra. I just want you to consider the other options before writing them off. Also, I do not have experience with other brands which is why I did not include them in my comparison.
Again, hope this helps. :D

Thanks for the quick reply sir mda, you are very helpful. 😊
Honestly, I've only checked out vios, accent, avanza, jazz, city and elantra. Though I still go back to elantra every time. Hehehe...
You gave me a bunch of things to research again which is good. Maintenance is another thing. Having a car seems to be like having a kid. Hehehe...
The Vios, Accent, Avanza, Jazz and City are all subcompact cars. The Elantra is classified under the compact segment and being more upscale and all will definitely feel bigger, more upscale, more luxurious and better built. The subcompacts (especially with their smaller 1.3L - 1.5L engines) will be easier on fuel though.
The Elantra's competitors in terms of size, features and price range are the Toyota Altis, Honda Civic, Mitsubishi Lancer EX, Ford Focus, Chevrolet Cruze, Subaru Impreza. Not sure if I left any out.
Yup, parang bata na nga ata (even if I don't have any) ang car ownership. Panay gastos lang, pero masaya naman![]()

Hi guys. I hit a no parking sign on the way out of my condo. The bumper got some thin scratches. Is there a product I can use to get rid of it? :-)
Very deep scratches, no. You can probably tell that it's a deep scratch if you can feel your fingernail going inside.
Light scratches, rubbing compound/buff/polish can do that. Kung di ka marunong, punta ka sa local detailing shop para gawin nila.
However, the process involves wearing the surrounding paint down to the level of the original scratches (which is why you can no longer "see" them). I'd suggest iwan mo nalang.
The other option is of course spot repaint (kapag maliit lang yung area), but nothing matches the quality of factory paint - even when the casa does it. I'd therefore just suggest you leave it as is.

Hmm... Will there be much difference with a 1.6L & 1.8L engine in terms of fuel consumption? Or even the 1.4L vs 1.6L? Para po kasing naliliitan ako sa subcompact coz I'm tall and I need good head and leg room to be comfy. Plus on weekends, my sibs will ride with me which are a "big" bunch, so I need to consider space din for them to be comfy. Hehehe...
May difference talaga yung engine displacement in terms of fuel consumption. If you're idling in traffic, the larger engine will definitely use more fuel.
If you load up the car a lot/often, you may find that the higher displacement engines will probably return similar fuel consumption figures as the smaller engines kasi mas "nahihirapan" yung smaller engine with the heavier load.
Try the other compact cars. The Elantra is a good car, but the competition have their merits too.
Hmm... Cge po... I'm gonna look around pa... Pero sir mda, based sa mga considerations ko, which cars kaya un mare recommend mo sa akin keeping in mind these things: budget less than 1M, fuel efficient, has enough space, will be used for city driving and weekly long drive to Cavite, me Lang un gagamit during weekdays, easy to maintain. Btw, I'm a single professional if that should even be considered in choosing the right car hehehe... Tnx po. 😊
If you want something the size of the Elantra under P1M, here's what should also be on your shortlist (aside from the Elantra of course). Each car has its own pros and cons, not withstanding any price differences among variants.
Toyota Corolla Altis
Honda Civic
Mitsubishi Lancer EX
Ford Focus
Chevrolet Cruze
Medyo off topic na ito considering this is an Elantra thread. If you want to follow up this line of thought, you may want to create a new topic in the Car Comparison subforum or shoot me a PM, or both![]()
