Vx+ has stability control, side curtain airbags and the hill assist. Thats the difference between the vx. Looks like im getting the jazz. The mini cooper doesnt make much sense for me given the price. Will have garyq put in projector headlamps and drl

Have to sell an older car to buy this.

To be fair, using safety as a differentiator has always been Honda's ploy. The ES Civic VTi and VTi-S were separated by airbags and ABS. Same with the 6th gen Accord VTi and VTi-L.

It's just alarming that the Jazz is now over 900k. The subcompact price range now spreads from 600-970k.

dapat BoyCott natin ang 3rd. gen Jazz, hanggang di nila * ibalik rear disk brakes; * ilagay 1.5li Direct Injected Earth Dreams engine na 131ps instead na 117; saka dapat 6M/T di luma 5M/T.... ano ba 'yan HCPI so dis-appointing.....kaya kayo napag-iiwanan ng Hyundai sa Pinas.... the best pa din talaga (for me) Honda Fit 1.5 VTEC ko.

You have a point about the rear disc brakes and the earth dreams engine.

I checked out the Jazz in person today, and I must say it's much better in the flesh than in pictures.

    imageuploadedbytsikot-forums1403669651.648463.jpg

My biggest reservation with the new Jazz was that it looked more like a minivan than a hatchback. In person, it has about the same appeal as the old one, just with sharper features. Still not as sleek as a Fiesta or Mazda 2, but at least it's not an Avanza just yet. It does look a bit taller, as Honda seems to have embraced that this isn't a cutesy hatch anymore but really a hybrid hatch-MPV.

The interior's improvement over the old model is much more pronounced. Those who're easily amused with toys will enjoy the touch screen HU and aircon controls. It looks nice, but IMO nothing beats a tactile feel. The audio HU has some lag, and feels more like a cheap Android than a snappy iPhone or S5. Connectivity is top notch with an intuitive Bluetooth system, 2 USB ports, iPhone integration, functional steering controls, and even movie playback. With all that though, choosing a radio station seems to have been made too complicated. Sound quality is okay - not gonna impress audiophiles but nothing too tinny. Overall, I wouldn't pay a premium for all the touch screen gizmos, but the connectivity makes it worth it over the 1-DIN unit of the base model.

The gauges are typical of any modern Honda with the blue hue and the corporate typeface, which is much more upscale than the orange treatment of the old Jazz.

Overall, the interior seems to be less spunky and more grown-up, which is reflective of the Jazz's evolution through the generations.

Moving over to the back seat reveals legroom that beats mosts compact sedans. However, despite the added space, it still doesn't feel as cozy as in an Altis or Mz3, perhaps due to the minimal cushioning and awkward seat height, or the so-so elbow room. Nonetheless, a family of 5 will fit comfortably, with enough space in the rear for some luggage.

Other things I noticed were that the rear design looks very MPV-ish due to the big lights, the brakes are drums (6 airbags and drum brakes are a weird combo) and that there seems to be a provision beside the front foglamps for DRLs.

I've yet to try how the new CVT and chassis fares when paired with the L15 engine, but hopefully it's as spunky as the old Jazzes. Unfortunately, if the design is any indication, it looks like the Jazz has given up its sporty nature to be a true-blue family car. I hope I'm wrong though.

Looking at the bigger picture, I don't think the majority of the Jazz's target market cares about the gripes you mentioned.

99% of people don't even know the difference between disc and drum brakes. They do believe that more airbags are better so the decision to put side/curtain airbags makes for a better selling point for the VX+.

Also, 99% of the target audience also doesn't care about horsepower figures. Bringing in the Earthdreams engine will jack up the unit price (obviously HCPI will not allow their profit margins to be compressed). The L15 is fuel-efficient enough for most. It has worked well for Toyota which has been using the 1.3 2NZ-FE for almost 2 decades now. It just makes more business sense.

The lack of a 6th gear for the base model might frustrate wannabe racers who will inevitably trick out their Jazzes, but I do believe that most buyers of the base model are penny pinchers or companies buying fleet cars, both of which will not care much that their car does not have a 6th gear for highway cruising (besides, most Jazzes are predominantly city dwellers anyway).

Also, in the subcompact segment, I don't think Honda is being left behind by Hyundai. After the launch of the City and the silly price changes of HARI, I've been seeing more new Cities than Accents, even if the former is much more expensive.

Would you choose the base model Jazz over the TOTL Suzuki Swift? Given that they are more or less priced the same..

Would it be better to get the Honda Jazz VX+ or a Mazda 3 V (the 1.5 HB version) considering that they are priced the same (948K)?

I had this dilemma too. I was able to test drive both cars but not too much with the jazz since i just drove it around the garage. I chose the jazz for practicality reasons.

I felt claustrophobic inside the mazda but that's just me. Acceleration of a 2.0 mazda 3 is superb but the 1.5 felt heavy. The mazda definitely has a better exterior and handling but with a 1.5 engine, parang trying hard. Oh, and the big matte grille looks shabby and the touch screen placement on the dash feels like an afterthought.

I went for the vx, btw bec just adding side curtain airbags is not enough to convince me to shell out 40k more. Buti sana kung nakaleather seats, rear disk brakes or moonroof.

Will have to wait til july or august for my unit though. They want to sell the vx+ first e. Nice strategy, honda.

Per the spec sheet, Jazz 1.5V has audio steering controls, ambient meter and blue ang color ng lights ng instrument panel. City 1.5e is orange ang instrument panel. Jazz wala yatang map lights pero City meron.

Forgot the most noticeable difference between jazz 1.5v and city 1.5e, the paddle shifters. Medyo dehado ang city for a 12k difference between the 2.
