March 3rd, 2011 01:55 AM #301If given a choice and a wishlist that a fairy godmother would grant..
- Strictly enforce the ban on MC with <400cc at the major highways (SLEX, NLEX, SCTEX, etc) simply because these vehicles are unstable at high speed, which is a requirement on highways.
- Strictly enforce a set of procedures to make it impossible for an uneducated driver (again, as long as you drive a vehicle) to get a hold of a license (LTO - seminars and actual driving tests...if you fail, then you don't get a license - simply put..you must be educated as a driver first before you get your license)
- provide MC lanes, regardless of engine displacement within the metropolis, not to mention MC specific parking slots in parking lots
- Strictly enforce a demerit system tied up to our drivers license (e.g. Singapore...its like if you accumulate 1000pts. you get your license suspended, with let's say overspeeding = 500pts. and so on and so forth) so if a person is caught doing the same thing over and over again, they stand a good chance of permanently loosing their privilege to drive, whether its a car or an MC, and APC or tank.
- ensure that all vehicles sold, whether an MC or Car should get an license plate the moment it is driven out of the casa (how friggin hard is it to stamp out a license plate for crying out loud)
- educate all traffic enforcers on road rules and etiquette,in other words, get somebody with brains to run the LTO
In all honesty, I've been a victim of a MC/Tricycle..which caused me a broken finger as well as putting my car in the casa for a couple of months, so I personally detest them. However, I see the benefits of regulating their use instead of an arbitrary ban on their use. I might purchase an MC in the future..just for running short errands or so, but I plan to be an educated MC rider and not contribute to the already tarnished image that they have.

matagal na pong mahigpit na pinagbabawal ang mga mc w/ <400c sa NLEX, SLEX, SCTEX at star tollway so walang issue dyan, pero ban on main highways like EDSA, Commonwealth, etc.? anong alternate route ang pwede?
keep in mind that a lot of business establishments specially banks and courier services depend on this motorized messengers mostly using underbones in their operations. can you imagine if they are using cars? traffic would be a nightmare for all of us in an already bad situation, and the demand for gas would increase the already high price.
para sa akin disiplina lang talaga ang kailangan at strict enforcement of traffic law specially dun sa mga pasaway na riders.

March 3rd, 2011 09:23 AM #304first of all.. you started the distasteful post with your slogan of "ban all underbones.." that in itself speaks volumes of what you DON'T know; after which you unsuccessfully try to reinforce it with flimsy reasoning and logic.
second, are you a policeman/traffic enforcer/mmda? you post this: Ikaw, sa tingin mo, kaya mo bang gawin yung mga pinapagawa mo sa mga traffic enforcers; hanggang gaano katagal?
and my answer is: why should I do that? it's NOT MY JOB to apprehend traffic violators. It's their job to do so, and they are not doing it properly-- and what should we do with people who don't perform their jobs properly? they should be fired!
forumers and netizens often compare our country with singapore (like bongbong and now pnoy apparently). me, I like to compare locally. let me repeat what I posted: if there is traffic discipline in clark and subic (and now la trinidad, benguet), why can't there be discipline in EDSA, which is comparatively SMALLER compared to those places mentioned?
simply remove the discriminate/selective apprehension of violators and you will see a big difference. enforce the law, and mean it.

March 3rd, 2011 09:33 AM #306oh.. but they did. the MMDA did it on commenwealth avenue. they proposed:
- a 60 kph maximum speed limit
- motorcycle lane
- bus/jeep lane and loading/unloading only on designated terminals
- video/picture apprehension of those in violation of speeding with the use of radar guns
that was on January 25, 2011.
and what is the end result? :grin2:
- it was found out that a motorcycle lane was not feasible
- 60 kph speed limit was only enforced ON THAT PARTICULAR DAY
- buses and jeeps do not follow loading/unloading because MMDA personnel are (pardon the term) pussies when it comes to apprehension
- the radar gun was only borrowed and had to be returned on the same day
motorcycle lane in metro manila? it won't work because of fly overs, under pass, and u-turn slots. it will only add MORE CHAOS because motorcycle riders are dynamic on their travels, unlike buses with designated routes.

March 3rd, 2011 09:44 AM #307there is actually a long discussion about the legality of that sub-400 cc ban, and there are people lobbying against it.
and you know what? sticker/decal lang ang katapat sa nlex, slex, sctex and star tollway. if it looks big, it is big-- yan ang summary ng implementation ng mga tollway operators.
It's ironic really. our lawmakers make plenty of rules and laws (like the sub-400 ban on expressways) but LEOs can't implement. ask yourselves this: why is there a ban on sub-400 motorcycles in the first place?
the answer: because they (LEOs) are too lazy to implement the law.
