Last Thursday. Right on the street where I live...three houses na lang at bahay ko na. I live in Sikatuna Village, Quezon City. Our road is under construction and we can't get our cars inside our garage. So we park them at the end of the block and walk home.

That night, I was walking towards my house carrying my gym bag, attache case, cellphone and new clie pda. Two men (in their late teens or in their twenties) approached me and one poked a gun at me while the other took out a knife and held it against my abdomen. They demanded that I give them what I was carrying.

After that, they walked calmly away as if nothing happened. I ran home and called 117 (a lot of good that did). But, when the police came, wala na silang inabutan.

Damn, I didn't mind the loss of the phone. But my new Clie' and my files???:mad: :mad: :mad:

What's this country coming to?

Did you go to the police station and had the incident blottered? You could also aid the men in uniforms by cartographic sketchings.

oh well, wala ka na magagawa nyan... lam mo naman sa pinas di ba, mabagala ng system... no offense meant pero that`s true... =)

I had the incident blottered that very night. The thing is...the police gave me an album of pictures of their rougues gallery to see if he was previously caught. Wala naman sa pictures but I would recognize them if ever I saw them again.

When I went to complain sa barangay namin, the barangay captain himself told me that they were aware of certain bad elements with the same M.O. going around our village. I was exasperated since they knew that people from our street only walk home due to the road construction. Bad trip talaga!!! Ako pa ang natiyempuhan nung mga yun!

Either baguhan sa area nyo yung goons or di kaya yung mga tumira sa iyo eh tauhan ng construction company na gumagawa sa kalye nyo? All they need is a couple of days to monitor your activities.

Kamusta ba ang barangay tanod activity jan? Dapat may rumoronda every 15 minutes.

bad trip yan ah... sa sarili mo pang lugar.... could u describe ano mga itsura nila? kse i live nearby lang... sa may project 2 area... baka mamaya biglang lumipat sila dun... sa min naman kahit sa labas ka ng bahay mo magpark pwede ka manakawan ng side mirror... dapat din e report mo yan sa baranggay sa inyo... tapos mag pa ronda sila ng mga tanod lalo na pag gabi...

Ang tindi naman nyan!!! Malapit kana sa bahay nyo kaka bda trip yan.. I think its time to learn some Self Defense para kahit papano eh confident tayo..

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Talagang ibayong pag-iingat na ang ginagawa ko. As expected, after complaining to the Barangay Captain, I noticed that after that incident, may nag-roronda na tanod. But, last Sunday and Monday night, wala na. Maybe they got bored.

Ganun pala ang mararamdaman nang isang nabiktima. You feel so violated right in your own backyard.

Am glad you got out of that in one piece, Altis.

The problem about relying on the police or your local tanods for protection is that it is physically impossible for them to be everywhere and to protect everyone at the same time. Besides, it is the criminals that decide when and where they will strike, not the law enforcers. Thus, I agree with some of the comments mentioned above about becoming more serious about self-defense. The next batch of hooligans you come across might not be as friendly.

Refuse to be a victim. Fight back.

Darn.... am not that pessimist no...but its not worth fighting for.... your life will be at greater risk pag lumaban ka pa...i know defense training is good pero isa lang naman ang kailangan nila, your stuff....i know a lot of people na naglaban and in the end they loose it all... pati life..tsk... tsk..! our country is not really that safe pero we have to live it all.....accept it all....we can be a victim sometimes but if we at least be careful n be aware of our environments.. we will survive it.....i feel you on that... i almost died defending someone elses life coz of those fools..... lets face....be extra careful..thats the best defense... just my opinion..

Yes, kikomonster. You are right in saying that one should be careful when in the streets of Metro Manila. Whether or not one should fight depends on ones personal beliefs on the matter, the particular situation one is faced with, and the level of one's defensive training. There is no blanket policy for everyone.

I'm sure that other persons thought that they would not be harmed if they chose to let the criminals have what they wanted, but who ended up being rape or killed in spite of their cooperation. I for one would not want to entrust my well-being and the future of my family to the tender mercies of a man pointing a gun at me.
