Naka hinto ako sa traffik along congressional, crossing ng mindanao. May dalawang makulit na bata na sayaw nang sayaw sa gitna ng daan. Tapos after a while, tumutuktok na sa window ko kasi yung mom ko nag tetext so kita niyang may ilaw.

Winave off ko nung una, pero ayaw. This usually works naman pero makulit. Usually, iaabante ko ng mabilis sabay brake para umalis. This time, since walang incoming traffic mula sa likod, PAATRAS kong ginawa.

Ayun, sapul sa ulo yung batang isa. Ang kukulit sobra kasi! Tapos yung isa sayaw pa nang sayaw at todo porma pa kahit naka green light na...

over naman ata yung bundulin mo yung bata. what good reason do you have for deliberately hitting the kid other than them smudging your windows a little bit (which isn't even a remotely good one)?

i mean, sure the children can be nuisances at times, but that doesn't mean that you can lord yourself over them like that.

pag binigyan mo ng pera/food/anything ung mga bata, malamang tatawagin nya lahat ng kaberks nya...before you know it you'll have a mob of unruly street kids at your window

When you give money to street kids, you are in fact encouraging that behavior -- a behavior which puts them at risk of getting hit by cars

kung gusto po ninyong makatulong, please course your donations/efforts/etc through the proper channels...for one thing, pwedeng sa sindikato napupunta ung limos mo(so you are, technically, financing criminals)...kung di naman, kung anu ano na lang ang pinambibili (paputok pag xmas time)

    peace B).

Once we were parked in a gasoline station, I think it's Shell... We were going to the airport and my uncle was outside, checking something... Then there were three boys (apparently, they're street children) were knocking on the windows... They were holding rugs... When no one gave something to them, they wiped the front of the car... it got sooo dirty!!! then they were laughing and watching my reaction... I stared angrily at them while they ran away, laughing and completely satisfied with what they did...

There was another time: it was in the boundary of Makati and Pasig... We were waiting for the signal light to turn green so that we can turn right... My car has a tint but it can somehow see inside... So the kid approached us and were pointing at the Mc Flurry I have in the cupholder... My driver told many excuses to the children, but indeed I am almost over eating my ice-cream... So there... The kid made angry noises outside and were knocking really, really hard at the windows... The kid even went to my side of the vehicle and continued his pounding... Meanwhile, I sat there like I don't notice anything... It's a good thing the lights turned green after a few seconds...

I'm not too sure about this. From the psychological standpoint, giving a reward - whether this is money or candy - will simply encourage their act. It's a classic Pavlovian reflex. Let's face it. The kids are not supposed to be on the street, much less be begging on the street. They're a traffic hazard. Furthermore, what they do poses a danger to themselves. Their habit of begging should not be reinforced or rewarded in whatever way. It is only at the point when nobody gives them anything will they stop doing it. Why do you think they continue begging? It's obviously because they make money out of it. If they didn't make money from it, they wouldn't beg. And from what I know, it's not "laman ng tiyan" that they buy. It's rugby. So your coins are actually contributing to their substance dependence.

Whatever it is you're giving....whether it is money or food.....you're sending the wrong signal to these street children. You're practically telling them that you tolerate their behavior and that it's okay to beg. You are perpetuating the problem and teaching this next generation of Filipinos the wrong sense of values.

I am shocked at the poor sense of values of these kids. Shamelessly begging! Whatever happened to dignity and self-respect? Certainly, when we give to them as they beg on the street, we are not teaching them dignity and self-respect. Then, when they grow up and become the scum of the earth, we complain about them. But then again, think about it. We were instrumental in making them turn into the scum of the earth.
