That IROC-Z could go that fast stock. You probably had a lot more "juice" on tap. I'm surprised you didn't do jail time going that fast, especially at that part of the country. I did the speed limit from the Florida panhandle all the way to Houston...... Cops liked my Nevada license plates. They kept following me......

Add: That 150mph.... Was that with the IROC-Z? Seems about right for a modded one.

hmmm. believe it or not, my fastest is around 110 kph. sa oto. hindi ako comfortable seeing my tach na pumapalo above 3000 rpms eh.

sa GSXR ko, 180 kph, pero spurt lang. sa skyway. di ko na uulitin. iba ang feeling eh, para ka ng patay.

the only reason he let me go(he didnt even give me a ticket ) was because i lost control of the car(hydroplaned) around a big bend part of the highway(yup.it was raining hard that night) and ended up on the ditch(thats the only reason he caught up with me too..lol) so i gave him a lame story that my wife was rushed in the hospital(i was single back then) and thats why i was rushing to get back to new orleans.i had a louisiana licence plate and drivers licence.he even helped me get my car off the ditch and as i was waiting to get cuffed(lets face it..cops wont give you a ticket for that speed.its wrecless driving and your going straight to jail..lol)he came up to me and asked me if i was okay and if the cars drivable.i said yes and he let me off and said just slow down a bit.you dont wanna be laying down next to your wife in the same hospital in the end...lol

the 150MPH was done on a modifed civic.probably could have gotten more but realistically..i got scared and had to let off the gas.its hard to explain the nerve wreck when you reach that speed at a very short distance and trying to keep the car straight.

    thats the car i ran.

....in HS, when I got rid of my Passol II which I was able to do 60kph, my mom bought me a Honda Dream 100cc and I was able to do 100kph with it (all stock) along Marcos Highway. I never did it again.

I had a similar situation when I was in Fallon, NV one weekend in late 1990 and we were recalled for deployment to Desert Shield (before it became Desert Storm). I had to rush back to CA and got nailed by the CHP just east of Sacramento. I got stopped for doing 80mph. I didn't go any faster because I was the only one along I-80 at 2am besides truckers. Still, the CHP got me. But when I told them why, they let me go. They too told me to slow it down.

I did my speed runs along deserted stretches of Nevada roads, mainly along the central portions of the state. I did a bit over 150mph on an HKS -modded DSM turbo. Like you at that stage, I was wondering if the engine will blow up plus I can actually see the fuel gauge needle moving slowly towards E. That gave me a creepy feeling. Actually, it scared the crap out of me. How often do you see the fuel gauge needle moving?

I was trying to see if my car had a chance with the Silver State Classic. That's 90 miles of no-holds barred, anything goes, pedal to the metal driving near Ely at eastern Nevada. I quickly decided no, my car wouldn't last long in such a (timed) race.

Add: At least your car's prepped for the track. Lots of safety features. Hmm it's a "stripper" too. Not much in there but your seat.I was a little more foolhardy with using a street-legal car. In hindsight, it was dumb. But that's past tense. I'm pretty much done going that fast.

ahhh..the nevada dessert... i have plenty of memories on those roads too..lol.the way you talk and kept on going back to the early 90's...i bet our age isnt too far from each other cause it was around mid 80's when i got my driver licence(15 back then and you didnt have to have drivers ed to get one or XX time behind a wheel with some instructor..lol) and it was from the 80's to late 90's when i used to be just dumb driving fast and trying to race anybody the pulls right next to me..lol
i still like modifiying engines and stiull loves speed but in a more controlled environment now(okay..so theres some urge from time to time when i just gun it from a red light..lol)

I'm several years older than you. But, most of the crowd I was with were a decade younger than me because I look much younger than I actually am. I didn't mind. At that time, most of the people my age already have a beer belly, loosing their hair, and becoming more wrinkled. Now, even those "kids" younger than me are starting to look older than me. I have a few gray hairs. But that's about it. I also easily gain a few more pounds over winter. But come spring and summer when I'm outdoors, I become pretty lean again.

I'd like to continue tuning cars and speeding. But, married life just isn't compatible with it. My wife already raised a big stink a couple of years ago when my Laser broke down 150 miles away in the middle of nowhere at the desert. Thank goodness for cell phones. But, it still took until the next day before a nephew drove out and picked me up. It's really that deserted over there.

Add: My time was from late 1990 to about 1997 when my wife arrived in the US and abruptly took over. Since I never got to do V8's in my heyday, that's what I want to do as a hobby. Lots of cheap used 4.6L V8 Mustangs around.

I'm not over there. But, one of our neighbors in Nevada was a cop for the Nevada Highway Patrol. He knew all the stupid stunts I pulled. But, the only thing he ever threatened me for was giving me a ticket for having bald tires.

I could've sworn he himself had taken his Mustang chase car for a spin more than once.

"Hey, tell your nephew if he doesn't change those bald tires, I'm gonna write him a ticket!".

I thought he was joking. But, I bought new tires that same day.
