Yup... that's why I'm still satisfied with my RS even after driving an SiR. The RS feels much more powerful at low revs. The SiR needs to be wrung out for even decent pace.
The RS feels powerful from 3000-5000rpm, but starts to run out of breath near 6000rpm. In the SiR, the first 5000rpm feel like in any other 1.6, just a bit stronger, but when you get past 6000rpm, it's no contest... the SiR is wonderful.
End result? We've run the RS and the SiR side by side on STAR, hitting 210 km/h. When you get caught in traffic, there's not very much difference in the acceleration, and it's at the top end (past 140) where the SiR feels much stronger. 1-2 car lengths nga lang daw ang difference nila sa drag, stock to stock.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
220 kmh Skyway, no other car on the road. Nangiginig na buong kotse, patay A/C, closed windows. Saya!!! Only fear is baka pumutok makina. 210 yung top speed sa manual e.
Mods: M kit, 225/55R16 Pilot HX (grippy talaga)
130 mph, felt like there's a lot left in the tank, darn those speed limiters!
OT sorry po.
Niky, yung SIR 210kph na run ninyo, how many passengers? kasi nung kami dalawa lang. Already on the fifth gear *190KPH pero la pa sa redline. Car wont go any faster tho and the open road's about to end hehe.
And yes, exactly how the SIR behaves, it's just like the VTi at speeds below 120KPH. It even feels like the 1.6 lynx can outrun it * 60 - 100KPH normal driving. BUT when that engine changes it's voice!!! WOW hehe. Daayyym, I love that car.
If your saying that RS feels a lot more robust at lows and mids than the SIR, then I've got to try this RS one of these days = ). I opt for cars with more emphasis on the low RPM torque simply because it drives better int he real world. SIRs simply just need a lot more open road - but I'm OK with that, or maybe until I've tried the RS hahah.
How's the RS compared to the 92 Galant GTi?
My cuz reports 200+ on the Skyway, 1 passenger. When we hit 210 (210 on his speedo, 207 on mine), we were both flying solo.
Top speed runs are heavily dependent on weather and temperature. The colder, the lower the top speed, the higher the engine power. The warmer, the higher the top speed, the lower the engine power. There's a happy medium there somewhere.
I've never driven the 92 Galant... my experience with old 2.0s is limited to the Maxima (CA20, not the current V6), 626 and an SR20 powered Sentra  The RS's 2.0 has shorter gears than the 626 (whose engine is nearly identical to the RS's... just 10hp down) and feels more athletic up top, but not as torquey at the bottom. Nissan's SR20 has better high up performance, and the GTi's engine also supposedly breathes better up top. While the RS's intake has been revised to cure the FSDE's high-rpm breathlessness, it still hasn't eliminated it.
Oh, BTW:
Top Speed:
Mazda 626 - 200 km/h + (not maxed out... very long 5th gear)
SR20 Sentra - 190 km/h (??? ECU limited... auto transmission... bwisit!!!)
Nissan Maxima 90' - 200 km/h +
Here's a good article from motioncars.com comparing the two... very accurate too, especially with regards to the RS's faults.Although Ang's gripe about ergonomics on the RS merely reflect his well-known Mitsubishi bias...
Still, good reading. Except that the RS has been proven to hit 0-100 in 8.2 - 8.3 (Car&Driver... plus some local "testing") as opposed to the 8.7 as quoted by some websites.

Ford Taurus SE 98 - 92 mph ~ 148 kph
Dodge Grand Caravan - 75 mph ~ 120 kph
Scion xA (test drive) - 35 mph ~ 56 kph
220kph 7g galantSS,.. me only * star tollway going home,.. the only setback is, the bad uneven contour of the road,.. nakakatakot lang talaga, parang paliku-liko,.. but the road is almost MINE at that time, magtatanghali palang, halos walang dumadaan,.. SARAAAAP!!!
Originally Posted by dell1222
