I was reading today's issue of the Philippine Star. In the Motoring section, one of the journalists narrated a harrowing tale regarding his family's car crash with a taxi.

I just noticed that in one part of the article, he states that: "If you recall, our car was treated to a new coat of DuPont Jaugar Garnet Red paint last year at the Jaguar/Ferrari/Range Rover service center courtesy of its president, Wellington Soong, to showcase the service center's workmanship."

I'm just wondering, what if Jaguar/Ferrari/Land Rover came up with a crappy product, will our motoring journalist be able to speak out and tell the truth?

Well... when you start getting big and questionable favors and/or gifts from car companies - it will be hard to critic them later on. This is utang-na-loob at its low point.

It's always assumed as an "exchange" deal. You write a favorable article, even a passing and the writer will get some deals and "gifts" later. Write something negative (even it's the truth) and watch your motoring journalism career go dry overnight.

Bihira yung magsabi sila ng negative, pero when you notice that the journalist sparingly praises the car..then you know something is wrong with the car.

Ex. March issue of Top Gear, the writer had very little nice things to say about the Nissan Frontier compared to his comments about the Isuzu D-Max and the Toyota Hi-Lux. Kahit na wala siyang sinabing masama sa Frontier, kita naman na he was trying to find somehting nice to say bout it.

It doesn't hurt to have a backer like BBC and a talent like Jeremy Clarkson.

Yes, napapansin ko ngang kung walang masyadong magandang masabi, ginagawa na lang na "dazzling the readers with literary brilliance".

So, nasaan ang honest to goodness review? Kawawa naman tayong mga consumers,- we are always at the receiving end of all of these 'responsible reporting'.....

yung pinaka honest na journalist dito for me ay si James Deakin. Although hindi siy ano holds barred writer, he still tells you kung walang kwenta ang car. Take for example yung review niya ng Picanto and Getz...aba, pati customer service reneview! Di daw maganda customer service sa Kia hehehehehehehehehe :D

Listen to his show every Wedensday night at 9 pm sa 103.5 , it's one of those programs I try not to miss
