Good morning everyone! When my wife and I went to Ford Cainta to check out the Ecosport on display last Sunday, the girl SA said that the New (Refreshed one) will be released August. When I asked for specs, the only she can confirm is the 1.0 (with Turbo) engine. I can't confirm though because I haven't seen any updates from Topgear PH, Autoindustriya, Autodeal or Carguide. (They usually post something in their respective websites).
Hopefully the Turbo won't have issues, together with its tranny![]()
That's good news! The turbo Ecosport comes with the new 6-speed AT tranny instead of the older DCT (PowerShift). You can check foreign web sites for the specs of this new Ecosport.
Don't worry too much about the 1.0L turbo engine. It's one hell of a small engine. It is much better than the 1.5L NA engine, more power and more torque.
1.0 ecoboost? i don't own one but i've read about so many issues w/ that engine
i'm more interested in the new 3cyl 1.5 NA engine
plenty. just google it. some of the issues may have been fixed already but it's still a turbo w/ direct-injection, more complication than i care for
btw i own an ecosport. the 1.5L non-turbo 4-cylinder is just fine for everyday driving. HOWEVER the facelift uses the new 3-cylinder engine which is fairly new so it definitely will have some teething problems, we just don't know yet how serious they are
but between the 1.0 ecoboost and the 3cyl 1.5 i'd go w/ the 1.5. the 1.5 is already being used in india. so just read the indian tsikot.com for feedback on the new engine
good luck! oh btw stay the hell away from the DCT version![]()
The Fox 1.0L 3-cylinder Ecoboost engine has been there for some time already (2012) and it is one of Ford's highly-awarded engines (voted 6 times best sub 1 liter engine from 2012 to 2017). This small displacement turbo engine has been used in multiple platforms (Fiesta, Focus, C-Max).
My 2014 Fiesta Ecoboost has not had any problems with its small 1.0L turbo engine. Also, engine response is much better than the anaemic 1.5L Sigma engine. Honda's L15 is a bit better on the top end than Ford's 1.5L but still no match in performance against Ford's 1.0L turbo.
Ford's 1.5L 4-cylinder is just OK, not much to speak of. The older 1.6L NA of the Fiesta was much better in terms of performance. However, it was really meant for fuel efficiency but I am not sure if it does perform well on that aspect.
To others, I suggest to give a ride a test drive before judging them. If you want a feel of small turbo in action, try the Fiesta Ecoboost and observe its response. Ford would not put Ecoboost engines on most of their higher-tier cars and SUVs (Focus, Escape, Taurus, Edge, Explorer, Expedition, F150, ST models, RS models, etc.) if these Ecoboost engines are not performing properly.

With my driving style, city driving averages around 8 km/L . On the highway, it can do around 20 km/L if you average 80-90 kmh. At an average of 100-120 kmh, it is around 15 km/L.
If you can keep the small engine from spooling its turbo all the time, you can achieve better fuel efficiency. The engine idles between 950 to 1000 rpm and the turbo spools just below 2000 rpm when properly warmed. When the turbo spools and you keep that pressure on the gas pedal, the engine will rev straight up to redline (past 6000 rpm).
