Cathy, if you can change spark plugs, you can change the coils ... it's just like plugging and unplugging your phone charger ... as mentioned earlier, pull it out of dealer (tell them you don't have funds) ... pay the checkup fee ... have it towed home ... find a mechanic online ... and show him the instructions given by tsikoteers or do a live chat with a tsikoteer while mechanic is working ...
Although I find (most) dealership practices to be predatory (relatives still based abroad call them "rip off joints" & "stealerships") in a nod to Toyota, payag sila to perform PMS based on total mileage, hindi yung time based (ie no. of months).
Kasi naman if low mileage (seldom used) and stored properly, yung mga non-moving/functioning parts (generally) won't degrade as much. Except of course sa mga fluids (oils, coolant, lubrication, trans. fluids etc. as mentioned by jick) which naturally degrade over time, kahit hindi ginagamit and are better replaced by time basis- sama na rin rubber hoses and the like though.
In the old days, most cars usually had only 1 main ignition coil, not these tiny 'coil over plug' things.
Although baka mas efficient na siguro yung mga recent designs, parang the old single coils didn't seem to go bad as much?
Napansin ko rin yung mga spark plug cables usually now have a screw securing them to the engine, unlike in the old days, rubber boots lang plugging into the spark plug cap. Baka siguro kasi of the coil over plug set up...![]()
thank you.
i'm not getting any younger and have trained hundreds of technicians where i'm at.
i wanted to help XXXXX and Xxxxxx Tech to update their programs for the betterment of training for our youth in the automotive service industry. but the two ignored my free service offer. again, free. i retired as an instructor in a community college and worked in the industry before, during and at present servicing cars. my wish was to update their program and instruction delivery to match with the international, specially with u.s. standards.
Dapat nga ma-update na rin ang tech. education sa automotive repair.
Getting cars fixed is like going to the doc for your body- there's a great deal of trust involved, and you have to hope they can accurately diagnose the problem and fix it. The risks involved are not only inept technicians but those with shady practices.
Like yung mga CVT issues as discussed the other day.
Whether here or overseas, a lot of mechanics are not familiar pa with the technology.
Now with these hybrid and electric vehicles coming in at the brink of this age, ewan natin.
goal ng mga car manufacturer is to make customers 100% reliant sa casa
after year 2000 lahat ng kotse when you open the hood all you see is plastic cover
the later the model the more it's covered
it's like telling customers hey off limits yan huwag niyo pakialaman
and true enough most car owners these days are totally reliant on casa
--
it will get worse as cars become connected online
cars become like phones where you need to download updates
and if you want better performance or better features you need to pay the manufacturer to unlock features
if you don't wanna pay you'll just be driving a car that's like 70% full potential
here, our local ford dealership service department, most of the procedures done are reprogramming. what's up motorcraft engineering
just mere mechanically skilled are left to replace brake pads, tires, lube and broom operator![]()
sorry OT
example ng future of car ownership
you subscribe to features

many electrical devices are like that.
no warning signs whatsoever, of impending doom.
perfectly fine one second, perfectly useless the next second.
think, light bulbs.
they blink out at the snap of the proverbial fingers.
and many of us have suffered the new-but-suddenly-dead light bulb, after only a few minutes or hours of use...
gusto ni cathy may senyales muna bago bumigay ang ignition coil
parang battery pag pasira na madali malobat
hehe
Ganun na nga hahaha. Kasi ganda ganda ng takbo ng car ko tapos out of nowhere feeling ko sasabog engine. So traumatic. I've been driving since I was 16, first time to experience that![]()
Kasi yung old cars may signs like iingay or something or pag shocks sira matagtag.
May timing belt ba car ko? Yan kinakatakutan ko din masira
