Any serious off road action can damage a oil filter, especially if it is hit by debris. Or bottoms out on something. The LF3487 has a pretty thick base plate compared to a OEM filter. Hopefully you guys did not damage anything.
I also thought the Everest had the same engine as the Ranger which is the WLT engine which does not have a 3/4 16th thread pattern. I am not sure that LF3487 is even the right filter for that engine.
I believe the 2.5 WL-T Everest engine should have a LF3689 or BD28 which has a M26 x 1.5 thread pattern.
But I could be wrong, I could never figure out the why the ranger and everest would have a different filter if they are the same engine.
The newer 3.0 liter ones have a different filter. I'll look into it.
