Oh wow. How did these valve problems happen? Baka nga daw nagasgasan, Factory defect? I do the PMS religiously so I have no idea how this problem started. How much is a top overhaul anyway? Is it that bad na I am better off selling my car?

possibility lang naman yan. kung hindi naman severe yung hammering sa valve stem tips e hindi mo need ng top overhaul. ang case lang for a top overhaul e kung sobra na-hammer yung tips ng valve stems at may possibility na ma-dislodged yung valve stem keepers at mahulog yung valve sa loob ng cylinder. pero kung slight damage lang ok pa yan, mag-manual adjustment lang ng konti to reset the hydraulic valve lash clearances. do get a second and third opinions before you agree for an overhaul. alam mo na, baka kasi nakita na "uy out of warranty na, girl driver..." at ginawan ka ng kalokohan ng casa mo. style rapide ba.

kung hindi nga hydraulic lash adjusters ang gamit nyan then normal valve tappet adjustment lang. para ka lang nagpa-tune up, P500 sa suking mechanic.

Kung change oil lang yun ginawa ng casa i think mahihirapan kayo na free yan malamang natapat lang sa kanila yun pag ingay ng engine. Puwede din nangyari napa start ng walang oil meron naki alam na ibang gumagawa.

I really hope they will not diagnose an overhaul. I'm praying that the theory of our car gurus are correct that is just a tappet issue

Yes, looks like a tappet issue only. Had the same problem with my old mazda before, I just ignored it... Tappet noise is music to my ears after all.

But since you're not me then have it checked outside.

Hehe same here. Also have tappet issues. Ignore lang. Still running 100kph on expressways btw. Tinanong ko si suking mechanic 600 lng daw pagawa.

The self adjusting thing was the biggest BS I have heard about 4afe. I downloaded a service manual about 4af/4afe and nowhere it says that tappet clearance is self adjusting.

I see, thanks for the heads up.
Ill do further research about this,
seems like all those mechanics that i inquired about my noisy tappets
(back then when i had the car) didn't just know how to adjust then,
as they are all saying that it is self adjusting, even thou my brother's
2e engined powered corolla has been adjusted a couple of times.

normal wear and tear ata. sa GE every 30K ang recommended inspection & adjustment.

baka depende sa car, iba-iba ang recommended interval for valve clearance adjustment.

nung 30K PMS ko outside ng casa nitong april lang, sabi nung mekaniko di pa raw kailangan nung pinakinggan nila yung tunog ng makina.

Makes me wonder why my ae101's engine remained quiet for 18 years.

Sabihin ko sa casa bukas yun muna valve clearance i check nila at hindi yung top overhaul agad.

We were supposed to bring the car to the casa this morning but the sound was really loud. I called my service advisor and had him listen to the sound of the engine and I said ayoko itakbo baka tumirik so they said sent people to my house instead.
