Newbie po! Fuel Efficiency Question

hello po mga sirs! newbie lang po ako sa forum na to and im glad that ive found this forums for my car questions. pano bo maincrease ang fuel efficiency ng car ko? ang tsikot ko po is 1982 GSR lancer.. 1.6L 4g32 Engine.. can't sell it for a new one because of it's aesthetic value.. so balak ko, restore na lang.. ano po ba dapat ang mga dapat kong icheck sa engine to have it replaced or adjusted? ang consumption po niya eh 10km/L based on observation.. one thing pa po is, yung fuel pump niya has busted diaphragm daw.. dahil pag hi rpms, may binubuga siya which explains why is the side of the fuel pump down to the starter motor covered with dry oil or grease, whatever it is.. factor din po ba ito ng poor Fuel Efficiency?

welcome to tsikot. IMO, dapat palitan mo muna fuel pump. gas ang tumatapon sa may starter mo. delikado kasi baka bigla ka masunog.

complete tune up, adjust ng carburetor, ignition timing at palit ng fuel pump.

whoa fuel pala yung sumisirit dun.. kahit wala akong naamos na fumes ng gas? gugulat kasi ako eh.. lalo na pag nasa working temp na yung car.. or pag na drive ko na siya for an hour long in temperate times.. mga tanghali.. pag binuksan ko yung hood then i-aaccelerate ko sa may carb.. pag tungtong sa high rpms, nagsspray siya! hehehe.. una din kong hinala is fuel eh. natakot nga ako baka masunog nalang ako bigla.. how much po ang brand new mechanical fuel pump?

btw, the engine is pretty old.. 2 times overhauled na siya wayback 3 or 4 years na yata kasi pinangaakyat ni ama ko ng Catanduanes.. then passed down to me para maalagaan ko and restore.. pero still, pumapalag pa naman siya sa rektahan.. talo nga lang sa arangkada.. bigat daw kasi kaha.. latang lata daw kasi..

sa complete tune up po, ano ano po yung papalitan dun? and sabi po nila, malaki daw po effect sa fuel efficiency ng Air Filter? how come?

10 kms/l sa GSR is still reasonable. ako nga mga 9 kms/l lang dun sa MX ko.

whoa! ganun rin pala kagastos miske ang brand new Lancer MX! ang masklap pa po sa 10km/l is wala pang aircon.. hehehe.. pano pa kaya pag may aircon load! huhuhuhu..

Lumalaki siya pag na-rebore, but if this was done as part of an overhaul, not by much...

este, kung dati 1.6 liters ang makina mo, ngayon ay 1.6050 na siya... ... +0.5 hp, +1% fuel consumption... if ever, but you won't notice it at all in most cases.

ahh ok.. yun pala yun.. tumaas man consumption.. pero not that much.. nadagdagan ng kalahating kabayo power!

thanks po! eto pa po, kanina po, gamit ko yung car at naka aircon po ako at mejo mataas ang temp ng car.. in-short, mainit masiyado yung makina pag naka aircon.. hindi normal.. then nagstop by lang ako sandali, tapos nung gagamitin ko na ulit, hindi siya easy starting.. una tagal redondo pero hindi ngstart.. ikalawa, redondo sabay, parang nabilaukan ata yung carb dahil nag-"phok!" tas mei sumingaw sa may bandang grill sa harapan kasi yung conventional air filter casing ko eh naka piping pa papunta front grill para incoming air ang mahihigop niya.. what could be the prob? is it the timing? at pag nagrerev ako, when i step on it, parang nde consistent minsan.. hindi siya "vrrruuuuum!" parang "vruuuu--uuuummmm!" nangyayare.. tas sa ibang situation, pag prolonged use, hindi ren one click start, reredondo ng matagal tas dahandahan magrerev na papugak then magnonormal.. what in the world is happening to my engine? what is needed to be checked and repaired? huhuhuhu..

pasensya na po kung maraming tanong.. hindi ko na po kasi mapagtanungan ama ko dahil sumuko na sa kakatanong ko eh.. very interested kasi ako sa mga ganito.. thanks po!!!

Lancie, medyo matagal na itong thread mo pero may di pa nasasagot na tanong. Tungkol dun sa tanong mo:

May tinatawag na "Vapor lock" kapag naka carburador especially kapag luma na ang parts at nagleleak na ang fuel system nito.

Ang nangyayari dahil mainit na ang makina mo naiinitan din ang carb at ang fuel na nasa loob nagiging vapor or gas, imbes na liquid na gasolina. So napuputol yung flow ng gasoline papuntang makina at parang nabibilaukan siya o minsan di na mag iistart. Kung baga natutuyo ang fuel line sa loob at nag-lock na ang makina dahil hindi makatuloy yung gasolina sa dapat niyang puntahan, in this case yung combustion chamber. Try mong kunin sa wikipedia para mas malinaw ang explanation.

Icheck mo rin lahat ng hose mo pati yung thermostat baka di pa tinataggal. parang chupon yun ng bata na bumabara kapag kinalawang. Di na kailangan dito sa pinas yung ganun. Tanggalin mo na lang. Maraming mekaniko sa Banawe ang marunong sa ganiyan, pero mairerekomenda ko sayo ang BBW. Ang tindahan nila may nakasabit ng malaking susi na may sabing Key Duplicate.

Tsaka palinis mo na rin yang aircon mo para malamig.

Interesado ako sa mga lumang sasakyan kasi masarap mag drive ng lumang sasakyan basta inaalagaan mo. Alagaan mo yan.

sir lancie, pareho tayo ng car, matagal bang di mo nagamit yun car mo? well, pede mo palitan ang fuel jet ng mas maliit para mas matipid cya sa gas. anyways, i we do have a lot to talk, punta ka ba sa GEB?

What need is a tune up.
Change your oil regularly
Clean or replace you air filter( must often if too dusty)
Replace your gas filter( must have been too old)
Change you sparkplug( you must SET GAP properly for proper function)Replace Sparkplug cable if you notice crack on the rubber.
Clean your Carb throtle, linkage, arm w/ Carb cleaner
Replace all old vacuum hose( clean the OROPICE also)
Inflate your tire properly(check your side wall for proper inflation)

If you do this simple tune could save you a lot of gas

Regarding your Fuelpump that leaking, busted diaphragm I have a big doubt on that unless they remove and inspected visually. I suspect that the gasket is the culprit. Buy a new gasket and replace it yourself, you can do it very easy to fix its just small bolts and gas hose to remove.

Baligtad tayo, when I noticed that the thermostat is missing from my rig, I bought a new one. Ang hirap maghanap sa mga auto supply kasi sabi raw ng mga mekaniko inaalis na raw yan, so di na rin sila nag bebenta... Hindi ako makapaniwala, so I did some research, and mas nangibabaw sa kin yung mga reasons kung bakit dapat merong thermostat.

Merong thread dito regarding sa thermostat, and mahaba habang debate yan. Kanya kanyang opinion and experience.

For me nung binalik ko yun thermostat, mas bumilis ang warm up time ko, and mas naging efficient yung cooling system ko.

Yung thermostat, kahit fully opened, still restricts the flow of the coolant therefore allowing more heat transfer. Tapos pag nasa radiator naman yung coolant, mas may time para lumamig ng konti before bumalik ulit sa engine.

Talking about cooling system, vital din 'to lalo na sa mga lumang sasakyan. Kung wala naman leak yung sa cooling system mo, ibalik mo na lang sa coolant instead of plain water. Marami rin thread dito tungkol dyan, pero just to give you a heads up, 50-50 ang mix ng distilled water at coolant, up to 40-60 pwede pa rin. Check mo rin yung radiator cap mo kasi pag defective, hindi magiging accurate yung pag overflow and higop sa reservoir mo.

Thanks dangerboi, medyo matagal ko na ring nireresearch iyan at clearly divided sa issue ang mga nababasa ko sa net at nakakausap ko. I'm actually thinking of saving up for one even though erpats ko disagrees completely; kapag napalitan ko na yung bypass hose at yung ibang rubber components baka isabay ko na yung thermo.

I fear na baka kapag mag high pressure uli ang cooling system ko, sisingaw na naman sa mga old hoses (since radiator hoses pa lang ang napapalitan)
and I would suddenly end up having a dry radiator. :headache:

If I had just one day alone with this car and just enough money I know just what to do.
