    Good day.

I think the oil change for my car is long overdue. My father used to take care of the maintenance of my car, but since he passed away, the maintenance has been neglected. I think the last oil change it had was around 8 or 9 months (15,000kms) ago. I know I need to have the oil changed ASAP but I really have no idea on how to go about it.

My friend recommended that I just bring it to Toyota Service Center. I am inclined to do so, but I am a little bit apprehensive because he also warned me that if the service staff senses that I am completely clueless about car maintenance, then he would recommend services that my car doesn't actually need and jack up the costs.

Another friend suggested that I just bring the car to a gas station, bring my own engine oil and just pay for labor. He also has some stocks of Petron Rev-X Trekker and Pantra that he is willing to sell to me at a discount.

I tried to back read just so I can have an idea of what to do, but most of the discussions sounded alien to me. To make the long story short, I would like to seek your recommendations on my best options. Thank you in advance.

you can try getting an itemized quote from the casa and post it here

you can also just go to a gas station as they usually have compatible oil and oil filters for your vehicle

There are plenty willing to help you here in taikot. But first, what is your car's make, model and year? And where are you located?

You mention it only has 15k kms several months ago and warranty might still be in effect. You can go to a toyota casa and have them do pms or periodic maintenance service.
Theyll give you a quotation before they do the actual service.
Ask them to remove the following since you dont need them:
Engine oil flush or any kind of flush
    Car wash
    Engine wash

If wala nang warranty, go to any shell or petron station for their services. Pwede din sa Motech branches.

some gas stations have an oil change promo.
i go to petron's promo. their prices are usually on the tarpaulin displayed on the service bay. you can check with your owner's manual, if the oil they use is acceptable to your car's needs.
i think i spent less than 2K for mine, a few months ago, including the oil filter already. and as yours is already 15K, i think you will benefit from an engine oil flush (additional expense. ask for price.)
you have a choice of replacing the air filter as well, or having it air-cleaned. (i am sure car aficionadoes frown on this practice.)
good luck, po. it's scary only on the first try.

but if you wi$$$h, you can bring it to the casa. tell them, "just oil change, with flush". oil filter (i always include it every oil change) and air filter also. gently say no to the other services, optionals and replaces. "wala sa budget, e. next time na lang."
and oh! bring xerox of car OR CR. they might ask.
the casa will probably charge twice the gas station bill.

i have been using mineral oil for decades. others prefer the more expensive synthetic oil. it's your choice, po.

Thank you for your inputs and suggestions. In answer to one of the comments and to clarify, the 15,000kms which I mentioned pertains to the kilometrage after my last oil change kaya I know na sobrang overdue na sya.

Based on all your advice, and sa advice na din ng officemates ko, I'll bring my car (it's a Fortuner 2011 2.5G model) to the nearest gas station na today for to have the following changed: oil, oil filter and air filter. If they offer oil flush services, I'll avail na din. Medyo nagpanic ako sa mga feedback ng officemates ko when I told them about it. Sabi nung isa, baka daw pag chineck ung langis ko, burak na daw yun or worse, baka nagbuo buo na ung gunk sa loob. Kaya din I decided to go for the most expedient option, i.e. the nearest gas station.

Pag medyo maluwag ang sched ko and may extra budget na din, I'll bring it to the casa na din for a check up. Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng nagcomment. Your suggestions are all duly noted

Makati po ako located on weekdays and Bulacan on weekends.

Medyo hesitant din po talaga ako magCasa, kasi feeling ko, dahil babae ako, iaassume doon na wala akong masyadong alam about cars kaya baka kung anu anong services ang i-offer sa kin.

So thank you po talaga sa lahat for all your inputs.

^Search sa OLX. Dami offer ng reasonably priced synthetics. There's ZIC, at may mga Mobil 1 din. Pair it with a good oil filter and you can extend your oil change from 8,000 to 10,000 km from the usual 3,000 to 5,000km.

For me I much prefer your friendly neighborhood gas station. If you have the time and the patience you can watch the whole oil change procedure up close. As dr.d already said, include oil flushing in the mix just to be sure since this would be a super extended oil change already. Choose those 10-15 minute flush for a more thorough cleansing. Those 3-5 minute flushes may be too harsh and may just dislodge instead of dissolve any built-up engine deposits.
