i have been using off-the-gasoline-station-shelf mineral oil for decades now. no ill-effects.

sir *dr. d, parang mas ok pa ang mga mineral oil na binibenta sa gasoline stations (e.g Shell Helix) basta you're religiously changing your engine oil every 5,000 KMs.
sir *Monseratto, saw a Valvoline sa suking Ace Hardware.
*PS: napapaisip din akong gumamit ng Royal Purple engine oil![]()
Mag1, Valvoline, Mobil, and Castrol can be bought in Ace Hardware or True Value.
You'd be better off buying them from gas stations. UniOil and Total stations sell fully synthetic oils cheaper than Shell. UniOil carries the Idemitsu brand (same as the casa fluids of Honda) while Total's product is named Quartz which is a new variation of the Elf oils before.
Oil from any reputable brand is fine. Even a good quality mineral oil is fine for 5k oil change interval.
As for personal preference i use zic oil lately from korea good quality even better price. Shell hx7 semi syn is also good for me but at the price i can get zic synthetic na. I try to stay away from castrol particularly yun local ones.
How about the pertua? Anybody here have tried using?

Good After noon. Ask ko lang mga sir anong viscosity ang gagamitin ko sa honda city 1998 ko (non-vtec).
10w40, 10w30 o 15w40? for non synt.
Please help. Thanks
Kahit ano dyan puwede. Yung base mineral oil na gamit ng Honda casa is 10w30. Mayrun Shell 10w40 semi-synthetic oil (High Life, blue bottle) at Shell 15w40 mineral oil (HX5, yellow bottle). Kung saan mas makatipid, puwede na yun basta palit ulit after 5k km.
if manual says API-SN then use API-SN in the recommended viscosity
if manual says replace engine oil every 10,000kms or 6months whichever comes first, then do exactly that if you drive under NORMAL conditions (not severe!). yes this applies to MINERAL OIL too!in fact the manual doesn't specify a different interval when using mineral/synthetic
don't be an idiot and stretch it to 1yr because you used synthetic![]()
