We went to La union this weekend, few days before that i changed my oil to motul and tried a different vicosity, thicker than the recomended 5w30, just a precaution, i know i was driving in the 3k-6k rpm most of the time....oil temp never went up above 103 C, added a can of ceratec...just to be on the safe side
Grp3 or grp4 base oils dont matter much nowadays. These discussions died years ago in bobistheoilguyforums. Most oils have good additive packages that meet most manufacturer requirements. Simply following recommended oil changes and engine requirements are the common discussion now. New topics now are direct injection engines and fuel dillution and ecoboost stuff.
So hard to backread, I'll just ask tsikot gurus directly. If a vehicle uses synthetic oil, then it should be synthetic all the way? I cannot go back to mineral oil? if the answer is a big NO then i'm good. If I can go back then my next question would be is there a detrimental effect when I switch back to mineral. thanks!,
Answer is in the manual, excerpt from our mine:
2.5 XT (2011-2013)
2.0 XT (2014)
5W-30 synthetic oil is required for optimum engine performance and protection. Conventional oil may be used if synthetic oil is unavailable. If 5W-30 synthetic oil is not available, 5W-30 or 5W-40 conventional oil may be used if replenishment is needed but should be changed to 5W-30 synthetic oil at the next oil change.
If it says in the manual that conventional oil is ok and your using synthetic right now, then its ok to go back to conventional oil.

thanks for the replies, bought a 2nd hand unit, 3.0 d4d. it had been loaded with synthetic oil. I'm thinking of going back to mineral because the synthetic costs triple compared to mineral. Don't know if there is any advantage of having the oil changed at 10k kms with synthetic vs 5k kms with mineral. Am thinking dudumi lalo pag pinatagal? not too car savvy.![]()
Yea for cars out of warranty pwede naman mag mineral oil palit every 3 months for diesels.
Evaluate your driving pattern first, if your car is used for extra urban stop and go traffic, which is harder on the engine, ill Disregard the 3k,5k or 10k rule, change oil on a time based system, every 3months is a must, if more hi way travel you can go upto 6 months or 3000kms which comes first.
Trying this out. I hope it's good. Price was P1,700+ for a 4-litre gallon at True Value and P520 for a 1-litre bottle.

Having my 15k pms soon. Used zic fully synthetic 5w30 last 10k pms. May natira about 700ml since the 10k pms. Enough na ba ito for "top up".
Bali replace oil filter nalang ba?
Thanks
Btw ito pala yung ginamit kong 5w30 last 10k pms

Depende sa oil filter. Some take 500ml. And pag change oil filter, the filter must be primed or filled with oil to prevent oil pump damage.
