The mobil 1 supersyn was meant for gas engines(SL/SJ) but is also rated for diesel(CF). They have one meant for diesels, Delvac 1, which is rated CH4. Your mobil 1 was just not optimized for diesel engines but it's compatible.

The different API ratings have evolved with the requirements of engines, fuel and emissions but basically differ in the type of additives used. The API CF was meant for higher sulfur levels in diesel fuel, non direct injection engines thus may have higher TBN, sulfated ash content vs the newer CG/CH oils. If your engine is not a high tech one then CF is ok since we do have higher sulfur levels vis-a-vis developed nations. Your car's manual should specify the minimum requirement for API.
IMO, full synth oil, even at CF, is superior to a mineral oil rated at CG/CH. The synth base oil will offer better protection rather than a good additive package in mineral oil. The additives wear out with soot, carbon, acid dilution leaving the base oil as a friction buffer.

hmm... the right API rating to use really depends on the diesel oil specs recommended by your owner's manual... like in the case of my GU Patrol, the use of synthethic oil is prohibited and the oil's API rating is recommended not to exceed CF-4...
so, in my case, it doesn't follow that the higher the API rating, the better it is... you should always consult your owner's manual for the recommended API and viscousity rating for your engine oil...
for our hot weather conditions, the recommended viscousity rating for engine oil is 15/20w-40/50... 5/10w oils are meant for cooler climates....

does casa now best? would they be credible enough to advise you on what type of oil to use? or theyd just be biased on their endorsement?

October 18th, 2003 10:30 AM #29sir noteworthy : i think we can expect the casa to at least allow the minimum specs but will not object if you have something better. experience ko lang po ito sa isuzu alabang.
By the way po. Seaoil Deo turbo max is available at P395/gal and 105/liter at Seaoil in Sucat Road near the interchange kung magawi po kayo dun.

Just curious, why is synth oil prohibited in the nissan GU engine and why can't it exceed a CF4 rating? What oil do they recommend or use at the casa?
