i see the mistrust on the shop/mechanic/technician. that is why you shop around for trained, equipped and experienced and trustworthy technician and stick with him/her. but feel free to get second, third, fourth or the forum opinion. you can even go to:
international automotive technicians' network (iATN.net) to get some ideas.

I went there before with my cousins who knew nothing about cars (My lola had them go with me para daw may lalaki. Honestly, I would have been better off by myself or just my younger cousin, I just don't know how to drive to Banawe) I told my older cousin I didn't want to deal with those guys sa side street but he insisted. The guys were "checking" my car, when I insisted na I did not want to deal with them, we left. When we got to another shop, kulang kulang na yung screws/nuts. Ang bilis ng kamay. WTF!!
BTT:
Most likely ang problema mo is alternator or battery. Better you bring the Corolla sa suking electrical shop mo para ma-check nilang mabuti.
that lighted icon almost always means the alternator isn't charging the battery.
it can be as costless as loose wires, loose belt, as cheap as depleted carbon brushes, or as costly as fried alternator diodes or winding cores.
you can have the battery and the alternator checked at decent battery shop for free (my favorite is motolite official outlet).
and older toyota alternators are not really that expensive. sometimes, it's cheaper to replace the entire thing with surplus than to troubleshoot and replace parts.. alternators have a very long service life..
a dead battery won't cause that light icon to light up.
i got a new maintenance-free 1smf for less than 3K last month (phoned for price before going).
good luck.
when i was younger and had no significant source of income (read: student), we used to push-start the car.. after 1 month or so, we decided to just replace the battery. nakaka-hassle, lalo na kung may ulan..

I am talking about would normally be the battery. Maaring hindi nga masira alternator mo ngayon, pero pag madalas mo ginawa yan, tanggal ng battery habang umaandar ang X Trail mo, you will know what I mean.
Here's a bit of reading material for your education, (with diagram pa yan) Charging System Basics

Wala naman problema na wala load alternator, it is just like a genset na nag energize pero wala ka nakakabit pang appliances or load.
There will be an issue kapag grounded (yan ang term na gamit ng mekaniko) and sasakyan mo, the truth is di naman ground yan, meron lang low resistance between sa +12V at GND connection gn battery mo at alternator, ibig sabihin may component ka na nagkokunsumo ng kuryente na hindi dapat based sa specs ng component nya or may mga leaky connections ka (wiring na open, then nabasa at nagkakaroon ng short connection).
Ang pwede mo maging issue sa sasakyan mo kung tinatangal mo baterya na alternator lang tumatakbo ay yung peak and low supply voltage sa sasakyan mo, remember alternator is a generator, affective yan ng speed prime mover, kung sakali bigla bumaba ang ikot ng prime mover say akyatan yung byahe, asahan mo kakapusin kuryente sasakyan mo, at kung bigla naman umarangkada ang sasakyan mo, expect that your system voltage will rise also, wala ka masyado issue sa increase sa system voltage kung masyadong maganda ang voltage regulator mo.
That is correct in a sense bro.,- because the vehicle battery(and all batteries for that matter) acts as a natural voltage regulator....
I hope that the alternator is not connected directly to any of the vehicle accessories,- if yes,- then you have a real problem....
19.4K:tomato:
Correct ko lang.
1. If walang load, no reason for the wire to get hot. Current runs in a loop, no loop means no current, but there will be always voltage. Ohms Law, I=V/R
2. Battery acts like a natural regulator, in a certain way yes it will as long as kaya nya pa I-tolerate yung excess na voltage na pinatong sa kanya.
Ganito yan, magparallel ka ng 12V supply at 11V supply, yung 11V ang mababasa sa meter mo at the instance na hindi pa sumasabog yung 11V mo or tolerated nya pa ang source.
It all sounds greek to me![]()
But geek talk is ***y
I really hope it's just the battery since it's 4 years old and has been recharged numerous times already. I'll have the AC fixed too. I hope I can do all these in one dayI can't help but think nagtampo kasi may buyer na tumingin last week
Naiiyak pa rin ako thinking that I have to sell my Corolla soon.
Di ko kailangan yung link, it is just a simple Ohms law, kung wala kang load, paano ka magkakuryente?
Safe yan sa old school, mechanical-type controls. Malaki tolerance sa voltage spikes/changes.
Yun mga de ECU at efi, pwede mo isugal pero you have been warned ika nga sa manual.. Pede masunog electronics kung hindi maganda regulation.
Yung battery acts as filter/ regulator, parang malaking capacitor.
O, wag kayo mag away.
Then crank mo mga 30mins at 1.2k rpm. Tangalin mo jumper once na kumarga na, then from there pede mo gawin yung isolation methods na nabanggit dito to determine if battery or alternator problem.
Yun jumper-wire magagamit mo pa in the future, malay mo masiraan si Uls ikaw tatakbo to the rescue. Lalo ka magiging cowboy nun.![]()
