I was thinking that kasi everyday mo ni start sasakyan mo, diba kada start mo it takes a toll in your car battery.
There's no correlation between driving long distances and battery life. We can only hypothesize that the alternator has finished "recharging" the battery from long trips versus the short trips and this leads to longer battery life. This is because frequent starts coupled with short trips leave your battery.. well... short.
And no, it's not using your car leads to premature failure but it's the fact that your battery needs to get a charge every now and then as your battery discharges itself naturally. I can have it hooked up to a battery charger and not use my car for 3 years and it'll still be okay.
And before we veer off-topic, yes, your resident Tsikot car audio section spammer is Amaron powered. Not that I'm convincing people to get it but I do recommend it.

^^Thats my point in saying "long distance trips will make your batt last longer" since it is always in a full charged mode Ü

is it always true sir? lets say in a day 50km takbo mo vs 20 km, ung 50km would typically last longer?
it's a complex chemical reaction, but the bottom line is, the longer your battery stays discharged, the shorter its lifespan will be..
so seldom used cars which travels short distances is the worst for battery life then?![]()
My car just turned 3 years old and I am amazed that the stock battery is still working. I am thinking of replacing it with Amaron when it dies or get the same battery from the casa (subok na). I used to drive my car less than 1 kilometer on weekdays for about a year or so. Some time during that period I felt the battery got weak, I even had the casa check for me. They said it was okay naman. Must have been psychological![]()
You can just replace it.. Cost of new battery will always be reasonable than losing peace of mind.
Or bring it to the battery shop. They have a tester that checks impedance, determines if its still good or estimate how long it will gonna last.
The starter is a current hog. Frequent cranking stresses the battery plus short distance trips does'nt give ample time to reach float charge.
Add to that, battery life shortens when exposed to heat - the heat under the hood during short distance metro traffic is greater than long distance driving.
Signs that a battery is weak is its cranking, pag mabagal mag crank than usual then time to replace it na.
Reading through this thread, I am happy that Hyundai used Amaron for my i10!
