Mine is a LS A/T and I experience exactly what you mentioned. Mostly when backing up out of the garage in the morning. I noticed it happens more so when I wash the car the night before. Nawawala minsan eh during the day. But when it happens, it's loud and kind of embarassing to be coming out from a beautiful new car like our cruze. I'm planning to spray some brake cleaner on the disc sometime, I wonder if it would solve the issue...

I will have to confirm this tomorrow sirs. If it is present to all Cruzes and does not affect the integrity of the brakes, it should be normal. If not, I will have to bring this to TCCCI engineers and have a deep look on this.

    I'll give feedback the soonest.

Is it like some sort of a screeching sound?

Experience it too.. Coming out from a carwash, a loud breaking noise kala ko may naputol pero pag tingin namin wala naman.. I hope walang nangyaring masama. Di kaya nag lo lock up yung abs? Coming from a halt baka naka engange yung abs nya. What you think abner could this possible? Thanks!

Hindi niyo naman na eexperience kapag pa-forward mga sir?

I think yung material ng brake pads yung reason kaya maingay. Lalo na pag nabasa yung brake rotors. Tsaka kung mapapansin niyo grabe yung brake dust.

Ganyan din yung Optra ko noon. Tsaka mga Hyundai ngayon.

I think normal yan sa Korean made cars..

WE tested several units this morning and we experienced a noise from an AT Cruze. It is a creeking noise produced by the pads and rotor as the transmission is engaged to reverse. This is loudest on units not driven for a while. It will only come out as you press the brake pedal. This is present to all units and is not in any way related to ABS. This is normal as per our evaluation.

If this isn't the case, please drive your unit into our shop for evaluation.

Sorry sir but if the problem is present in several units, it does not make it 'normal'. It's considered a design flaw which should rectified.
Do you think the cruze was designed to specifically have this type of sound to serve as some sort of a warning when backing-up?
....to tell people around you that "hey! I'm backing-up and I'm stepping on my brakes!"
Thanks for doing your evaluation but the conclusion is technically incorrect.
I really appreciate the effort but hope that there would be a more thorough analysis regarding this.

    I'm with abner.

    He's telling the truth.

As I've posted at the previous page, I encountered that issue with my Optra before and my 6 months old 2010 Tucson.

After the 20,000km PMS of my Optra, they replaced the brake pads. Nawala yung sound. ;)

    It's normal.

There's no way it's connected with ABS.

I have experienced it with other cars. Automatic. Manual. Name it and you got it.

    Don't panic.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that he's not. I'm even glad that someone is representing chevy very well in this forum.

By the way, did they use the same type of brake pads for your Optra?

It's either bendix or the OEM AC Delco.

Nawala yung sound sir tsaka nabawasan yung brake dust.

Siguro hindi na organic materials yung brake pads. Baka asbestos na sir.

"It is normal as per our evaluation" was the statement sir. We did not conclude based on its presence to all test units. That's a technical BS.

It was the noise coming from the grip of the pads on the rotor as the engine turns the tires to move and as the brakes stops it as you press the pedal. Then that noise comes out.

The asbestos composition of brake pads has been banned for car manufacturers due to its health hazard. Before the ban were the days that we don't encounter much brake dust on the mags and lesser brake noise.

Pads now have different composition but the most common and present mostly to all pads are the resin materials that serves as binders to all other brake pad component.

Together they produce the noise that we are hearing (same noise you hear from Cruze) and the brake dusts that cling to the rims or mags.

It couldn't be considered a design flaw. Maybe they haven't done the most perfect way yet but it serves the very purpose of stopping your car with lesser health hazard.
