Thank you for your e-mail. Please find below my answers to the concerns being raised by your customer.
1. Where can I find the OFFICIAL version? Meaning, the version that will hold up to warranty claims. Is the one in the manual OFFICIAL? I mean, with so many versions of Cruze PMS, which one is the TCCCI official version?
A: The one we have printed in the owner’s manual is the original PMS schedule and interval. However, GM Thailand has mandated us to increase the PMS interval to 10,000 kms or 6 months whichever comes first. From here, we have made corrections with the manual, page 177, wherein we have incorporated the new PMS interval through a correction sticker. The correction of the manuals were done at NYK. I believe that the owner’s manual of your customer was not yet corrected and needs to be issued with the updated one. Also, kindly see attached circular we have sent the Dealer Network concerning the PMS schedule and replacement of parts interval.
2. If the one in the manual is THE official one, the schedule of servicing is only given for distance, NOT FOR TIME. For instance, change oil is every 20,000 kms, period. Does this mean that I may not have my oil changed even in 2 years, if the odometer is still below 20,000 kms? This is the first time I have encountered a PMS without time schedule, only distance.
A: As mentioned above, the PMS schedule, including the oil change interval, is 10,000 kms or 6 months whichever comes first. Also please find below the replacement interval for the consumable items that we have stipulated in the circular.
· Spark plugs – every 2 years / 40,000 kms.
· Air cleaner – every 1 year / 20,000 kms.
· Pollen filter – every 1 year / 20,000 kms.
· Brake fluid – every 2 years / 40,000 kms.
· Coolant fluid – every 3 years / 60,000 kms.
· Timing belts – every 3 years / 60,000 kms.
3. When should I have the first servicing? In the manual the earliest is 5,000 km. Again, no period stated in months or years, just in kms. So does this mean anytime? As long as odometer reads 5,000 kms?
A: The first servicing schedule should be done on 10,000 kms or 6 months whichever comes first.
4. Spark plug change is every 5,000 km according to the manual. Really? Isn't that a bit too often?
A: Spark plug is every 2 years or 40,000 kms whichever comes first.
5. Change oil is every 20,000 km according to the manual. And no alternative schedule for severe driving conditions like driving for extremely short distances or very dusty environment.
A: Same as the issue stated in question for nos. 2 and 3.
6. Since change oil is every 20,000 kms, that means I don't have to have the oil changed on the first servicing at 5,000 kms?
A: This is one of the items corrected in the owner’s manual. The interval for the oil change, being part of the PMS, is every 10,000 kms or 6 months whichever comes first.
May I request that the owner’s manual issued to the customer be retrieved and replaced with the updated one. I will have Bert Pascual bring to you the updated owner’s manual on Thursday, September 2, 2010.
