It's a 2 yr assignment, maximum would be 3 yrs as that's the maximum term by law.

They already moved me in the org chart sa HQ and now I am starting to feel the pressure They have so much expectations and my other female boss I think will give me hell there. Actually she is starting to give me hell now but I take comfort in the fact that she is half a world away, the challenge would be when I am sitting next to her. It's like suddenly they expect to know everything because we will be on the same level now
Cathy, this is indicative of the impostor syndrome. Look it up if not familiar. I'm not saying may sakit ka, it is just that your words are indicative of that thinking. You are discounting yourself. You just said they expect you to be of the same level as her/them. If thats the case then you are fully capable. I say give her hell too!

I am at a crossroads again.

We received very sad news today that our whole department will be outsourced to India. This is very shocking news for all of us. We are aware that the company has been losing money for about 5 or more years now and that we are downsizing but we were always told that our department will be safe. We are a cost center and not a profit center so we have no "targets". We've been cost cutting left and right including transferring our office and as small as removing our software access.

I am HEARTBROKEN. I returned to Manila because of this job that I LOVE. My work is the only good thing going on in my life. This job gives me independence and a sense of fulfillment plus I will will never be able to find bosses as good as mine that lets me get away with murder and never say no to me

I convinced my family to allow me to come back to the PH (We had to pay USCIS for a permit to exit the US) so I can at least get my promotion, and this is what my German VP told me as well - get the AVP title to have better opportunities in the US. I was supposed to be promoted in 2019 but got disqualified because I was in the US. Management, again, moved heaven and earth to keep my job safe. When the head in HQ announced that they will outsource our department, even my German VP boss was shocked. I was told that there isn't much they can do anymore since our department will be dissolved.

I was given the following options:

    1. Move to India - I said NO WAY. But then they are still giving me time to think about it

    2. Move to another role within the company - but I will not be reporting to HQ anymore and I will have a Filipino boss which probably means no more work from home and flexible working hours for me. I am an SME and in my late 30s so finding a new job will NOT be easy. I am so used to my bosses that give me everything I want

    3. Decline all roles offered, wait for redundancy and move to another company

    4. Move back to the US and look for a job

    5. Look for a role in HQ (unlikely since they are downsizing)

I am happy because the VP of branch APAC talked to me a few hours after the announcement and he said he wants to take me in. I am THANKFUL that I already have a job lined up but my former VP friend is encouraging me to just get the redundancy and leave. She left the company last week along with several other VPs

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that this will happen to my department. The mood here is so gloomy and a lot of staff went under time from sama ng loob ata. One thing is for sure, I will NOT be jobless. I can't even tell my family about this because I don't want them to worry about me

Tsikoteers, please help me pray and hope that everything will work out well...

Crossroads w/ options. You're in a much better place than many. Smile, give thanks, turn the page. Loops are fine, but give new stories a chance. Where in India? Hyderabad shouldn't be bad.

Not sure where in India but no way am I moving there. I will be moved as a local hire and not as an expat so that means no car service and housing provided by the company for me. I don't think it's safe for me to live as a local there. My German VP boss is scared there even with a driver and car service. He can't even walk alone daw.

Yeah, even the VP here in Manila said she does not see me in India even to train my replacement. It makes me wonder how bad it is there.

    Sorry to hear that...

I think items 3 and 4 makes sense. Don't be discouraged, a lot of opportunities are ahead of you. The greatest challenge I can see is the transition, together with the new work environment. Other than that, everything should be good.

my former vp friend recommends 3 nga - I get redundancy package and a higher pay in a new company

BUT the greatest challenge for me is the new culture and no more bosses that give everything I want. My friends have been telling me the whole time that this will be my BIGGEST adjustment.

Is there any possibility that you go together with your boss? And no, I'm not asking you to get married to your boss but that is also an option.

Kidding aside, the transition might not be "harsh" if that is case. You still report directly to him and nothing much should change, except that you are no longer work in your current company.

hahaha! My boss is already in HQ. I was supposed to transfer in HQ back in 2016 (hence this thread) that is why they moved me in the org chart already but that did not push through. I am the only person left in Manila in our team. But since we still belong to the same department, I was able to stay here. But now they outsourced/dissolved the whole department so my boss has no control na ksi he can only pakialam within his department Even my boss's boss will have no power

Ms. Cath, i’m so sad to hear the news... i wish i can hug and comfort you... stop crying now...

Anyway, Sabi nga nila, don’t love the company because you never know when the company stop loving you... pero nangyari na nga...

Go for redundancy and fly to u.s.... for me, if i’m going to change my company or my career path, then i have a chance to be in the u.s, i will grab that opportunity... specially now, u.s econ is booming...

I'd go for getting the redundancy and move to the US and look for a job there Ms Cathy, I think you're still lucky bcoz you can still can work in the US unlike others whom don't have any alternatives after their company closes.

This is still your best option.

    1. You get a significant sum from the separation pay

    2. You have a fresh new start in a new company

    3. You are forced to overcome your fears ---- this alone will give you the biggest prize of all: true freedom for the rest of your working life .

Good luck. I dont wish your situation on anybody. But you have to make the most of it and as others have said, you DO have options. That in itself counts for something.
