I agree with you, but that's not the point I'm making.

Yes, we have electronic steering assist and drive-by-wire accel pedal.... but they're still analog. Obviously, you can't have a steering system that can only do full left, right, and center. Same with the accel and brake pedals. They're not simple ON and OFF switches.

As opposed to shifting... where gear selection is fixed. Even cars with CVTs, the driver does not have override control over the gears.... if it has 7 forward gears, you can select 1 to 7, but not 1.5, 3.8, or some other odd gear ratios that, in reality, the CVT could probably do in "D".

Same deal with electronic parking brakes... it's either ON (engaged) or OFF (disengaged). How often have ordinary people actually used their parking/e-brakes in an actual emergency? And wouldn't you think that activating a button is easier for everyone than tugging on a traditional lever, where locking the rear tires is possible? Not everyone drifts.
