Solenoid is an electromagnetic valve used to close and open the LPG flow in the copper pipe. When the electric current is charge, the winding will create a magnetic force to left up the valve to open. And when the current is disable, the spring will push the valve to close. So, the solenoid doesn't open partially. Cold starting is normal even in the gasoline mode. But too much hard starting always happens when: there is a premature clog on the system, dirty LPG Mixer and air filter. And when the engine is hot, the clog will reach its melting point(it will become soft), causing a continues LPG flow.

In a carb type engine when changing from Gasoline to LPG vehicle should be at rest. Press the LPG Changeover Switch to neutral mode, it will close the both petrol and LPG solenoids to consume all the petrol inside the carburetor, then the engine will shut-off. Press to the LPG mode then start the engine. When you switch directly, at a moment the engine will consume both petrol and LPG, causing insufficient supply of air in the combustion chamber because it was displaced by the amount of LPG. As a result why you experiencing like drowning.

The ideal Air-Fuel Ratio is 14.7 kg of air per 1 kg of petrol. So, insufficient supply of air can cause poor combustion, resulting to engine abnormal vibration. And the Black smoke in the tailpipe is the unburned fuel.
