XTrail vs other Petrol CUVs

Just want to hear your opinion on these guys. An cousin's looking at the Xtrail as he's looking for something comfortable, with good ground clearance, nice to drive, reliable, and can be brought anywhere (but not anything that's offroad) They have an accent and a navarra, so sedans and truck based SUVs are out of the picture. The Xtrail is his main bet, but still looking at other choices in the market. Not sure of why their preference of gasoline fed, but some contenders that we talked about are

- Tucson / Sportage
- CRV
- Upcoming Rav4

Questions are, any cons of the Xtrail against the other three? Which is bang for the buck given his requirements? Would appreciate owners' feedbacks. Thanks!

I suggest montero GLS-V 4x4. manual nga lang. pero same price with xtrail 4WD, diesel pa. at mas "can be brought anywhere"

between your choices, sportage or tucson. 250k less ang sportage 4x4 compared sa xtrail 4x4. more or less 150k less naman sa tucson. mas masaya pa idrive for me ah. at napapangitan ako sa xtrail :D

1.9M ang 4WD ng rav4. hindi sulit para sakin

Magkano budget? Ipag-isipan ng matino! Ang gas CUV ay malakas humigop!

I will not be getting the Tucson/Sportage with those voracious Theta engines, and the new Rav4 is just too expensive for what you get. This leaves us with the CRV. This should be the most fuel efficient among your choices especially with the new R20 engine and a 6 speed manual. There's also the advantage of higher resale value, being a Honda.

Grand Vitara okay din, RWD pa at mas matibay sa kunting offroad. Can compete with xtrail in that department.

If power is a major concern, then CR-V 2.0 is not for his cousin. Ang bagal ng R20 sa CR-V.

4-5km/L ba yun when climbing Kennon Road with the Tucson Club?

Ang tipid naman ng Sportage niyo ah. Rush hour city driving, o may kasamang highway?

Yung mga nakakakuha ng 6km/L siguro yung mga rush hour lagi lumalabas and/or maikli lang ang rota. Under such circumstances kahit yung Revo namin na, bukod sa SF VGT, ang pinakamatipid na kotse sa bahay namin nakakakuha ng around 7km/L lamang.

Dun naman sa Tucson CRDi, yan ang maganda sa pagiging diesel eh. Kahit na 6.5km/L ang konsumo niyan.
6.5km/L / P41/L (diesel) = X km/L / P52/L (unleaded)
6.5(52) = 41X
X - 8.24km/L
Therefore, money spent on diesel fuel consumed * 6.5km/L is equivalent to money spent on unleaded gasoline consumed * 8.24km/L.

Anyway, back to the topic. If power is a major concern, most 2.0L gasoline CUVs would not satisfy the TS what with their heavy bodies and lack of torque. If the R20 CRV, even in manual form, is considered slow, then the 2.0L X-Trail wouldn't be much better.

Syempre uphill yun what to expect

malakas talaga sa gas yun HAHA.

Yung Sportage namin pure city driving yan. I'm using Motul fully synthetic and Petron Blaze. Pag Sunday tapos punta Resorts World kaya mag ~10km/L.

Kailan niyo lang nakuha yun Santa Fe?

Thanks sa mga reply sir. Indi naman ganun kaconcern ang 'power', basta komportable, reliable at medyo rugged since medyo dirt road un daan papunta bahay nila. Masyado po ba limiting un hinahanap? Heheh. Kaya Xtrail un napipisil dahil sa reputation nya as a crossover. Wala naman masyado problema un Xtrail, as per their thread sa Nisaan, Baka meron lang na mas bang for the buck para sa kanya sa mga 2WD option.

*GTi, if Calistro is referring to the X-trail CVT, power wouldn't be a problem even if they're considering the 4x2 version since it comes standard with the 2.5 liter engine.

-Not really a fan of the Tucson/Sportage but they're pretty good choices. Don't own one so I don't know how they are to drive or own. Tucson is starting to look old, sportage looks nice but some people don't dig the DRL

-Personally, if you're looking at 2wd models, I think the new thai CR-Vs are bang for the buck. Priced well. Go for the range topping 2.0 2wd model with the extra features. And the looks of the new CR-V seems to be growing on me. Unlike the previous model which never really looked nice, but has a great interior.
-The 4x2 X-trail CVT doesn't look as nice as the 4x4, those regular halogen headlamps are ugly.
