Standard transmissions can be done pretty much anywhere, which is what i am referring to against a dual dry clutch system which is currently uncommon. it might only be serviceable in the casa which will be so much more expensive compared to being able to get it done outside within the next several years. I think everyone would agree that today the 4sp AT of the swift is a lot cheaper, and probably easier, to repair compared to the 6sp dual dry clutch of the fiesta. If you were to bring a fiesta sport to your local talyer or gas service station for a transmission issue, you might as well be Marty McFly showing them a hover board or a flux capacitor.

    Makes perfect sense.
No one said it dint make sense. what i said was that 0 and 1 on the fuel gauge is not to my personal preference. I never said it should be the law. :P If they wanted to keep the "cellphone" theme then maybe the fuel gauge could have been shown like a battery or signal meter on a cell phone using bars. again, just my opinion.

Actually the hardware of those AMT's such as the dual-clutch one used in the Fiesta is not too harder to deal with than an average manual transmission. The only issue are some parts specific to that system, when alternative replacements are still unavailable.

So. Where can you buy parts for a Swift automatic?

Even for regular manual transmissions, parts needed for repair of the inside of the box have to be sourced from specialists or imported. Strip a synchro in your Civic? Good luck finding that part. Strip a synchro in your Swift? Better know how to order in Japanese.

The only extraordinary wear item in any automatic gearbox is the clutch packs and torque converter. If you destroy the torque converter in the Swift, order from Japan.

If you destroy the clutch packs in most ATs, the dealership will ask you to replace the torque converter or the whole transmission (Honda). I'm betting most Suzuki dealership service crews won't even understand what you're talking about when you ask them to replace your clutch packs.

If you strip the clutch packs in the Fiesta, Ford offers replacements. Last I heard, it was 20-30k, which sounds expensive, but considering dealerships already charge 15k or so for all the parts to replace a standard clutch (clutch, pressure plate, release bearing) and with some modern manuals, they'll ask you to replace the dual mass flywheel, too (maybe 20-30k, if you're unlucky), 20-30k for dual-clutch clutch packs is actually sort of a bargain.

Not that I prefer the Fiesta DCT. I don't like the shifting behavior of the box, which is why I'd buy the 1.4 Fiesta if I were buying. The 1.4 Fiesta hatchback is as close to perfect as the Fiesta gets.

ok, so i stand corrected :P i was under the delusion that the "common" AT slush box parts are easily bought in the auto supply or surplus shops... apparently not.

So what do we do when the warranty is out and the tranny needs a fixin? just by a new one?

    Don't wear it out. :p

It's not a dire need. If you don't race or torque brake the transmission, and you do fluid changes regularly, nothing should wear out before 100,000 to 150,000 kms.

Boo to all Suzuki dealers. they can't comply with company bidding requirements. Sinabi na ngang hiwalay ang LTO sa price pilit na nilalagay. Plus accessories they put in are not suzuki genuine accessories. tsk tsk.

When something is "free", that simply means it is worked into the cost structure. Some big companies would rather you separate the cost and give it as a straight cash discount because they can get it done themselves for much less.

Same here, if a company is willing to give, say, one free laptop for every fifty computer purchases, sometimes we will calculate the retail cost of the laptop and simply ask for a cash discount.
