hit or miss din ang mitsubishi
. based from our L300s bought from 1992 to date, irony but the engine of the 1992 produced L300 is tougher than the newer ones in terms of repairs. the engine is still in tact, no overhaul/major damage. in fact our 2001 model already had an overhaul, then after a year, broke down again, decided to change the engine. our 2004 model currently has the most sluggish engine sound. might eventually need an overhaul.
marami din concerns sa montero reading the threads here in tsikot. were considering buying the GLX non-VGT M/T din kasi. well, parte na siguro ng manufacturing process yan specially na puro electronics na and more parts are prone to fail. the primary disadvantage of the sorento, aside from the badge snobb, I think is the parts availability. you might be waiting for weeks or even a month for a part to arrive since the parts are imported from korea, no stock of parts here unfortunately. for the R engine, mukhang matibay naman. wala pa naman nababalitaan major na sira across the Santa FE, sorento, sportage and tucson.

Sorento for me.
The Montero's so common, it has lost a lot of its macho image despite being a full-size 7-seater SUV. As much as I like the Montero, it feels very plebeian nowadays.
The Sorento is much more powerful, and also handles better. Since I value performance and driving dynamics most in a car, this basically seals the deal. Bonus nalang na matipid din yung Sorento despite having much more power.
Space-wise, the Sorento feels bigger inside. Interior looks more modern too (best among the sub-2M large SUVs IMO). Exterior's also much better for me, it looks more expensive than the Montero.
Yung mga exterior bits na wala sa Sorento LX, madali nalang idagdag yan. But it's hard to add an extra 60 horsepower and more car-like refinement to the Montero.
Looking at your requirements though, mukhang wala ka namang paki dun. Mukhang simple, boring car lang ok na sayo basta cheap to run. So maybe the Montero would fit you better.

yes this is true. I was actually shocked when I take a look at the Monty GLX nonVGT at a dealership. I expected the Monty to have more space than our sorento since parang ang laki ng kaha. i was surprised that the sorento is definitely better in headroom, elbow room and knee room. specially on the 2nd row of the monty where I feel cramped, specially with the headroom with those overhead A/C vents.

July 10th, 2012 11:56 PM #17ang ayaw ko lang sa Montero eh pag nag-shortcut ako, yun tipong kokonti lang ang makakasalubong ko sa daan sa shortcut route and I still I can count 3-4 monteros in my path sa posh village road na yun.
ganyan ka common ang montero. but if you want to count years, this Montero can last more than 20 years judging from how Mitsubishi still offers Adventure and L300 now. I drove a Montero in 3 day vacation out of town and the Montero is just built tough, sinasagasa ko mga lubak dyan (probably bec. I dont own the vehicle lol) pero sa Santa Fe ko with the same route, maririnig ko kalampag sa harap bec. my SF is a crossover. so I'm thinking the Sorento will be the same in those roads since they're sisters.
----
the only thing I like about the Sorento now is the timing coz boxy cars really appeal to me. the SF started the fluidic SUV race and bibihira na ngayun ang boxy cars. and probably bec. I have the SF, kaya gusto ko naman ng boxy SUV. even my 1st gen CRV is fluidic in some way.
and black + boxy just screams power and elegance. even if I get the bare M/T version of Sorento, I will have a commanding presence in the road. yun nga Ford Explorer EB ng dad, gusto gusto ko hiramin eh, kasi boxy rin yun na malaki.Last edited by pop3corn; July 11th, 2012 at 12:02 AM.

July 11th, 2012 12:01 AM #18the montero's interior is like a sedan. cramped. I've notice this already when compared to my SF and probably the Sorento. pahaba lang siya. the Montero looks big outside bec. of the tapalodo and of course, the bigger tires.
for me, it's not a concern coz most of the time me and wife lang ang sakay. kung pwede nga lang ibenta ang 3rd row seats ibebenta ko eh. my SF is 7-seater. pero hindi ko ito inaamin sa friends and relatives. ayaw ko nga may sumakay sa pinakalikod noh!

When was the last time you changed them? If it's been a while, I suggest following your mechanic's...
