Otherwise, I use the handbrake. Tapos pag aandar na, I mix the gas and clutch then let down the handbrake pag naramdaman ko na ang slight forward movement from the gas/clutch mix.

I thought this is what everyone does since it has worked so well for me for decades!

Most common automatics experience hesitation and indecision in picking gears. Either they wait an additional half-second to confirm that, yes, you want more power, or they drop down a gear even when you don't need it, at the slightest sign of an incline. Also, they get flummoxed in many dynamic sitautions, like cornering, and rummage around for the right gear. If they pick one that's too low, say good-bye to the racing line and hello, curb.

Common ATs here refer to torque-converter jobs... trannies which suffer the additional indignity of having to drag a big torque converter through the slush we all call transmission fluid. At high HP levels, this drag becomes inconsequential, but for small engines, it's a big handicap.

CVTs provide smoother function, but their logic function is also as limited. The additional control provided by semi-automatic functions help alleviate some of this, but then, the computer almost always errs on the side of safety, giving you less control.

SMG and DSG are the best ATs around, but then, they're not true ATs, they're robotised manuals.

Madilim kasi kaya inuunti-unti niya pero it was much faster than what I could've done on a manual. Ayun, napilay tuloy yung dog -- mabuti nabuhay.

That's why I don't mind A/T for the bigger-V6 engined cars. As an example, our 06 Sonata's 3.3L V6 is better mated for its A/T. Plus, it has a shiftronic to compensate even more. Our A/T 95 Contour with a smaller 2.5L V6 does exactly what niky said, searching wildly for the proper gear and sometimes not finding it. I wouldn't take it mountain driving.

i know, ung former delica ko a/t yun, see my liteace on my sig?? a/t din yan..

but the trend going on nowadays, most high end cars/variant have only a/t option--> hiace super grandia, innova V, fortuner V, civic FD-2.0SL, mazda 6, mazda 2.0r, focus hatch, starex club, xtrail, grand vitara v6, APV glx, altis 1.8G, rav4, murano, etc.....
