Depends on the vehicle actually. Some matics are really slugish and boring to drive.

If acceleration is good, I prefer MATIC.

if you live or will be driving through in a high traffic area... you might want to consider automatic tranny.

Daily driver, city driving, and you don't mind (a bit) lower gasoline mileage?

    Matic.

(But then again, it'll all boil down to passion driving vs. comfort driving)...

My cousin before had this dilema so to settle the score we went for a good test drive of both variants. It was one of the best ways to make that crucial choice.

Nothing beats hands on evaluation because we all have different driving styles and habits.

This way you can decide if an automatic is sluggish or not.

Whoever said that should be hanged! Upside down that is hehe.

First time I heard of a disposable tranny and there is no such thing.

What is a fact though is that compared to a manual, an AT will cost more to repair.

manual and matic transmission have there good points and bad points
    manual
    - ok mileage
    - fun to drive kasi pede mo ibirit kada gear
    - mejo nakakapagod pag traffic dahil sa clutch
    - pwede mo itulak pag naubusan ka ng battery
    - mejo mas simple ang maintenance

    matic
    - some say boring , pero minsan depende sa sayo yun eh
for me pag long drive yes its boring , pero pag traffic its a divine gift
    - im not sure kung pano maintenance ng matic coz i havent tried pa
    - gas consumption slightly higher

given this , yung choice mo eh magiging depende sayo , kung mejo sporty type ka and you dig or gsto mo yung mejo nakakainit ng dugo manual :D pero kung mejo laid back or you just drive for transportation matic :D pero still its your choice sir . just sharing my opinion :D

i agree, if youre more of the type na basta makarating sa destination, go for matic.. but if you want the "real driving experience", edi manual...

personally if price isnt a factor, id go for matic. sa daan pa lang sa metro manila kelangan mo na e.. trafffiiiccc! LOL

I drive a manual but I'd still prefer a matic.

Boring din ang manual sa long drive. With the MB100, halos hindi na ko umaalis ng fifth gear (lakas kasi ng torque). Anything between 70kph-135kph can be covered by a single gear.

Downshift lang ako kapag overtaking sa national highway.

maintenance - automatic might be expensive, especially na second hand kunin mo.

handling - depende sa condition ng car; in general, automatic is far easier to handle; pero pag-sanay ka na sa manuel, driving will come just as easy.

consumption - in general, automatic consumes more fuel; though "some" say that in the case of honda city a/t cvt, it is more efficient that its m/t counterpart (none has made the some observation as with mithsubishi lancer a/t cvt with respect to its m/t counterpart); at the end of the day, it is a matter of preference: less fuel efficiency but slight ease in driving, expecially in heavy traffic vs. fuel efficient mannual tranny.

for a newbie driving his first (second hand) car, a manual tranny would provide him the necessary driving initiation.

i drive both. but i still prefer manual lalo na kung kotse ang dala ko. mas fulfilling mag drive ng manual eh.. siguro sa preference lang talaga ng driver yan. if you don't mind less mileage to your fuel consumption pwede na ang matic. imo, di na biro ang presyo ng gas ngayon, kaya i'm a little biased towards m/t.

Hell, yeah. I think driving a manual helps to keep me awake behind the wheel, especially on late night trips home.

City driving: AT, other than that MT.

But, how about the semi-automatic nga naman? Like the latest Civic (don't know which variant) has this shifts on the steering wheel. I have not driven these but if I get the message correct - you can just leave it there if you want the machine to shift it for you (automatic) but you can still control it if you so desire. Mukha naman na na-address na yung needs ng parehong type of driver. Tama ba assumption ko mga kapatid?
