I would like to ask the TS if this would be your only car? If I have 1.8M and this would be my only car and I have a family... Its going to be a toss up between a starex or an innova plus a mirage.

Kung SUV, i would take a look at the SF3. I exchanged my Montero to an SF3 and have no regrets.

If I already have a car and have 1.8M to spend pn another one, I would get get the GT86.

Innova plus Mirage is a good idea. Mitsubishi has quality issues, Chevrolet has after sales and service issues.

faced roughly the same question 3 months ago. was given a 2M budget that i needed to spend on 1 vehicle for my personal use in MM. No modifications so it should come with the vehicle if it were to be covered by the 2M. Savings, if any, will not redound to my benefit - that means goodbye to the heavily discounted GLS-V or any 2 cars for 2M deals. its also going to be my only vehicle here in MM.

i could not wait for the T6 based Everest, hell i couldnt even stand the waiting time of the 3.2 WildTrak so it was off the list. i was seriously considering the TOTL WildTrak so it was tough to cross it out.

on the list were the santa fe 4x2, trailblazer LTZ, montero GTV and the fortuner V.

went with the montero despite its boring looks both inside and out. its so freakin common because its the only one that has a model selling for 1.12M after discounts. the silver paint and hazard button on the center console feels cheap. but it checks off a lot on the list like acceptable ride comfort, acceptable looks, after sales support and parts availability, reliability and PMS Policy etc... it comes stock with the most toys. its the safe and boring choice.

the new santa fe in white is a stunner and had a hard time crossing it out. within this group, it had the best cockpit layout and a superior engine. sadly suspension issues of previous models turned me off - its 5 year warranty notwithstanding. love the exterior looks of the Trailblazer compared to the montero but parts availability, among other things, is a concern as it will be my only vehicle here in MM and any downtime waiting for parts is a drag. my family bought a TB LTZ in cebu at about the same time so i can still give a long term feedback for the chevy.

if you can wait for the T6 Everest, that would be a good choice - but that would be a long wait.

the montero, my impulse wanted the santa fe and a close 2nd, the trailblazer. but my brain told me to get the montero. will get a chance to revisit this issue late 2014/mid 2015 as we want to replace the '06 fortuner v with the T6 everest or maybe the all new fortuner - both hopefully out by then.

Ford Fiesta 1.5 Ambiente MT hatchback (P698K) and a Ranger XLT MT (1.069M). Total would be P1.767M, still got P33k change... for a mountain bike? lol

Now I'd have a subcompact for daily city driving and a high-riding pickup for out of town trips and bad weather.

Yes sir, it would be my only car. And it would be a family car, and there are 7 of us. After reading the entire thread about Trailblazer, I'm inclining to that one. Verdicts are: better ride comfort vs montero, space (third row is spacious enough and can house tall passengers not just kids) is greater than that of montero and fortuner, FC is about 8-11 km/L (under EDSA bumper-bumper traffic), and features like Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent, Traction Control, and Electronic Stabilization which I greatly need because I plan on going on road trips to the mountains in the north where roads are very steep.

I really like this idea, now the only thing left is convincing my family to get two cars instead of 1. Because they're gonna reason out that, if we're gonna buy two cars, might as well buy one and save the remaining money. So, it's gonna be a hard option.

if the family is ok with getting 2 cars, id go that route. probably the base mirage plus another vehicle - ranger, innova, montero glx etc.depending on terrain and use.. if its going to be the only car for a family of 7, i'd seriously consider a van. we're a family of 6 and we always use the starex whenever we need to cram in only one vehicle to travel. nobody wants to routinely sit in the 3rd row of a fortuner/montero/santa fe/trailblazer/pajero. it's bearable but not comfortable. you wont hear any complaints when the car is new but the novelty wears off at some point in time.

That's actually a more practical way to go. If you don't need a 1.8m car, no sense in maxing out the available budget.

The extra money can go to investments or a side business or etcetera.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Maybe a van is more practical, but we're just a family of 5 so I think yung space ng SUV is enough. My reasons for getting an SUV is the "porma" looks, the space in case there's more people to carry (nagiging marami lang naman kami kapag nagoouting kami, but meron naman starex at city ang pinsan ko na lagi namin kasama), and high clearance for floods. Alam ko na kung family of 5 lang kami I can get away with just a sedan, pero yun nga, need ko ng space plus grabe ung flooding problem sa pilipinas and my main route is along taft through manila. Alam ko din na kaya naman ng van yun pero hindi ako komportable isugod sa baha ang hiace or starex, unlike kapag montero, fortuner, or trailblazer.

+1 sa Innova + Mirage Combo

    Mirage Gls 1.2 A/T CVT Srp 638,000
    Innova 2.5G Dsl A/T Srp 1,168,000

    Less Cash Discounts.
    Pasok na pasok sa 1.8M

    Both easy to maintain.

As per my experience, iba pa rin ang may 2nd car if youre a family man unless problema ang parking. hehe.. Daming advantages. 😊

True. If all seven of you will be riding together regularly might as well get a van. Starex + compact combo. Or a muuuuch cheaper alternative would be a Suzuki APV then you'll still have enough money for the entry level Montero/Fortuner. You get 2 seven seaters instead of one.

Haha yes, problema nga ang parking. We have four houses in our lot because there are the four of us. My brother have a city and a starex so limited na agad ang parking space.
