The other day I was able to borrow a service vehicle in the office, a 10 year old Avanza that has logged 380,000km it still runs good, the only thing I didn’t like is how loose the shifter felt which I reported to the chief mechanic and promptly replaced the shifter cable and its all good now

    among others,
black tailpipe smoke, oil pumping (malakas mag konsumo ng engine oil), loose compression (needs special equipment to determine), flickering oil pressure light...

    that no tune-up can alleviate.

the first line is all about blowby, po.
as a result of engine wear and tear, there's too much space between the cylinder wall and the piston, resulting in burnt gases leaking thru (blowby), resulting in poor engine performance.
also, oil manages to get into the combustion chamber and gets burned along with the fuel. this results in excessive oil consumption and black tailpipe smoke.

I checked this morning and the odometer is at 199,854 miles (321,634 km). I never had a car last this far before. The closest one was my turbo Diamond Star coupe. It reached 167k miles. But, it's engine was also dead.

The Sonata is doing very well, considering I'm much more abusive to it than the older coupe.
