great choice pup2! you wont be disappointed. btw what color are u getting? ok daw un Urban gray sabi ng SA ng subaru gh. its noticeably more relaxing to drive a faster car during long drives and since na mention hindi ka city driver than the 2.5XT would be perfect for long provincial drives.

pics naman pag nakuha mo na!

    Haha... good luck sa purchase.

Hmmmm... demonyohan? Speedlab just dyno-tested their Forester unichip install... 2.5XT, no exhaust or turbo mods... 26 additional whp from the chip alone...

that's pretty consistent with the power increase you'd get with the Cobb AP.

    http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/?id=2486

we also have to remember that subaru has a tendency to underrate their cars. the first FXTs (03-05) were rated at 210hp, but dynos showed that some had up to 260hp stock.

that's one of the best things about this car, it's easy to make it even more powerful.

Gusto ko sana red kaya lang ayaw ni misis. Kaya nag-compomise kami sa gold. Di ako maka-post ng pics eh. Wala pang connector yung cel ko sa comp dahil medyo luma na. I'll update the forester thread about the performance and FC though.

Pero this early, I can say na sa lahat ng car namin ito at yung accord na 90s model had the nicest ride comfort.

Haha. Haha.

Turns out tama siya on both counts though. Kasi yun accord 2.0 ng dad ko ang pinaka walang gustong gumamit. Tingin ko yung city kung 1.3 ganun din ang mangyayari.

According to them, the brand new one they dynoed at Autoplus had about 150-something whp stock, and at 176 or so whp after the chip... kinda under-powered compared to other stock dynos, but Autoplus's dynojet is reputed to read low... but it could be more because of the automatic transmission.

Sid says it's a night and day difference.

Hi FXT. Thanks for posting the link to Cobb Tuning. It was an eye-opener for me.

Now that I've seen the potential of the Subaru engine, Im all the more worried that if I purchase the Forester 2.0, I may not be able to take advantage of the performance tools offered by Cobb or other mod suppliers. I'll be using the vehicle for mostly city driving (95%) but am open to the option of bumping up the HP for more spirited driving. You see, the catalogue doesn't seem to mention the base 2.0 model, only the 2.5XT.

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this. Everyone is welcome to share what they know about this as well. I'll be making a purchase decision come July. Thanks in advance.

I'll be keeping a tab on this thread. Interesting stuff. :-)

congrats! gusto ko rin yung red (or black) nung una, pero gold or white na lang natira sa mga '05 models when i bought, so i got the gold one. i grew to like it. the mundane color adds to the sleeper factor.

i think Cobb only deals with performance cars, kaya wala yung 2.0 sa site nila. the good thing about the Cobb products is many subaru dealers carry them. and if they're installed by the dealers, hindi void yung warranty. if you want to know more about 2.0 mods, punta ka sa link na post ni hbv. also, i think england and australia had the 2.0 GTs (the original badass foresters ), so siguro may available mod parts dyan, from companies such as prodrive and MRT.

I guess my first option then is to talk to the local Subaru dealer here in Manila regarding mod options for the 2.0, if any. Thanks for your quick reply, FXT. I appreciate it.

I have been inquiring about the possibility of a manual tranny for the 2.0 and i got a vague answer. With its high ground clearance , magandang pangharabas sa probinsiya. This EJ20 engine is the same engine of the previous 2.0 wrx, so i guess its turbo friendly?

If you are planning on getting the 2.0X instead of the 2.5 XT your mod options are very limited..Not that we are discouraging you on the 2.0 but if you are looking for performance off the bat then the 2.5XT it is.. It's more than enough to make you behind the wheel and absolutely will satisfy your need for speed.

The 2.0 is the same exact engine (EJ20) DOHC as the USDM WRX and JDM STI's except that it is not turbocharged and has higher compression pistons and thus built for fuel economy and everyday drivability in mind. It's not as powerful as a turbocharged EJ20/EJ25 but it gets the work done.

But if you plan on doing some mods be ready to have some $$$ extra because modding the N/A 2.0 can be very expensive since parts are a scarce. Rarely do i see a modded Subie N/A but if there are any those have extensive engine upgrades and still wouldn't be as fast as a forced fed one..

:fyi: Same engine but not turbo friendly since it has higher compression pistons and the block wouldn't handle the extra power afaik..

Actually, any block is turbo-ready... the limit from the compression ratio is just how much boost/power you can run. A stock N/A 2.0 should be able to handle 200+ bhp with no problem... although this will probably show on the dyno as 120-150 whp (Subarus lose a lot of power to the wheels due to drivetrain losses).

Full N/A mods should get you about 175-180 bhp from the engine (it's claimed at 160 crank). That would be around 110 at the wheels.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Thanks for you inputs. I have a follow-up question. If turbocharging is not an option for the 2.0, what mods can I make to give it some additional HP like, say, 15-20 horses? How about tweaking the ECU or putting in alternative enhancers besides turbocharging the engine? I'm open to spending for mods in the future but I'm putting a cap of about 30K-50K only. Thanks again.

Um... I think that you can discuss Forester mods in details in the proper thread in the SUV forum.
