The new brands aren't quite there yet with the big boys... but I'm reminded of Hyundai's previous Tucson with the two cars I'm driving now.

Yes. They're getting closer. Don't have the dealership and service networks to challenge the Japanese giants yet, but the products are no longer kit-car wannabes. They're fully mainstream cars in everything but badge.
I saw this in the flesh in v-mall during the weekend. I know MG is an old brand however the exterior design does invoke in my mind of a slightly dated korean design however that might just be me.

Also another thing pops in my mind..Lucas electrics? Hehe

Chinese owned na pala MG ngayon. Kaya din pala mukhang Chinese inspired na rin ang design. [emoji31]

Hahaha... no Lucas here. Modern naman.

Yeah, the look, feel and driving dynamics remind me a lot of the previous generation Sorento... a sort of bantam-sized (Between Santa Fe and Tucson) crossover with sporty driving dynamics and a punchy engine. Like the old Sorento, lots of hard, scratchy plastics, but the interior design itself is rather nice.

But ownership is somewhat overrated for me. You pay for financing, depreciation, fuel, maintenance, insurance, and miscellaneous costs (cleaning, garage, etc). Even if the car is only with you for a week or a few days, you get to enjoy it without the hole in your pocket. Multiply that by all the cars you review within a year and that amounts to a pretty long and free (and always new) car experience. A much better deal, I think.

I miss having a company car. I used to enjoy the same new car privileges without the costs.

Its probably the emotional aspect of it. Something's lacking when you dont own it. Pinahiram lang sayo. Nakikigamit lang. Hindi mo naman binili. Anytime pwede kunin. Its a benefit of the post, not the person or something similar.

I had an offer early this year from another company where I'd get a company car that was to be replaced every 2 years or 30,000 km. I said no as I prefer having a car that I could call mine, something under my name.

Wise move. Always choose to monetize the car subsidy and buy your own car.

^^^ My wife just moved to a new company and she is entitled to a company car. She opted to monetize the benefit but she can only get a portion of the amount of a new car. It is still something. We don't need a third car and I'm not swayed by the car choice they presented.

Now, if I do move to another company and a company car is offered, I would decide to get it or not depending on the coverage. If it's something like in the amount of a Lexus IS350 or a VW Passat, I'd surely get it. =)

It's not a regular thing. But that's why I have a secondhand car in the garage.

Secondhand, if you know how to wrench and can get a good one, is often the way to go. My cost per year with what I'm driving now will come out to maybe 20k a year before gas and oil expenses.

I get that. Owning is still different. Specially if it is a car you really want. But for a daily driver I really miss the free gas, free service, tires, parts, etc. I guess the perfect setup would be to have a daily driver company car na pang harabas and a nice car you really like that you can take car of, damn the costs.

20K is pretty awesome. Hard to find good examples from 2nd hand market though. Spent a lot of time looking and often came up empty. For maintenance I still have to rely on my suking grease monkey. Cheap enough here.

20k a year is cheap! I think the total repairs for my Mazda 3 has reached around 60k for the past year. And to think it already had the best condition among the dozen or so units I checked out.

Estimate lang yun. Have spent less than 10k on the major repairs, so far. (And this is a 100k km vehicle). It came with fresh tires that are so slippery I think they'll last forever.

Is this your replacement for your old Lynx RS?

So far the major replacements for my Mazda have been:
    - Shocks, stab links, and suspension arms
    - Shift control module
    - Alternator

Then I've replaced all replaceables (filters, pads, oils) except tires which were new when I got them.

The wider track looks good. Fold flat 2nd row looks good too.

Looks cavernous inside. Not sure about the styling though. Dimensions are almost the same as the Xtrail so finally legroom will be much better. Is it too much to hope the 1.5T will be offered in anything but the TOTL model?

Not liking the touchscreen. It looks like its angle will reflect too much sunlight and wont be readable under the sun.

Lets hope we get vaiants of the 1.5T in mid and high spec trims.

We will probably get this late 2017 or mid 2018. I still think an asean version is in the works.

By the time its released in our market we will know long term reliablity from the americas.

The new Mazda CX5 "might" get a Skyactiv Turbo engine.

We will know next week at the LA Auto Show.
