Yup. Stand in while waiting to see if we will or won't repair it.

Meantime, no more crossovers in the house. Downsize. Save muna. :D
Talked to a guy at a carwash.
He's thinking of getting a Mirage as a second car, relegating his seven-seater to school bus only duties.
On their company car plan, their big boss, in contrast to other executives who max out the plan with Volvos or Land Cruisers, drives a Mirage.
Company benefits. Cash. Why not spend as little as possible and pocket the rest?

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
Sold the CRV? I'd say that the higher running costs of the CRV are worth it considering the increased practicality it has over other cars. Personally I wouldn't get one because it's not fun to drive, but I see how it could be very appealing as an all-around family car.
I would bet that boss isn't a car nut. It's one thing to just get the cheapest available car for your daily drive, but most people who buy more expensive cars understand the impracticality but do so anyway for a more enjoyable/comfortable drive.

She's retired. It's just not practical at this point. Having a CR-V at 220,000 kms, with the interior trim falling apart, the paint peeling, the rear differential on its last legs and the transmission's condition unknown (still shifts great, but I've seen Accord five speeds go at less kilometers than this) is not something she needs to deal with now.
We sold it low. And the guy we sold it to, instead of repairing it to resell, just resold it. Came to the same conclusion that we did... at this point, repairing it to "decent" condition to resell is a just a losing proposition.
The extra space was nice, but honestly, ride comfort was never one of the car's strong points (not as bad as second gen, but not as good as current). And while it's a tall car, the CR-V is NOT a flood-worthy vehicle. Not with the bumper level snorkel, so switching to a hatchback loses you only a few inches of flood clearance, rather than two or three feet versus an SUV or AUV.
Wish we'd gotten more out of it... or at least not spent so much on gas and maintenance. I'd told her to buy the 2.0, but she got pulled in by a discount deal on the 2.4. While I love the power, it's just not practical in a daily commuter to have that 2.4 and AWD... AWD which we used just ONCE in the eight years we had the car. (And we didn't need to... we simply climbed that sandbank for fun.)
Sad to see it go, but she likes her new car. Spacious enough for her. Rides nicely. Infinitely cheaper to fuel up and maintain. Depreciates slowly. So it drives like crap, but she's not driving, so what does she care? :hysterical:

Niky, what was the average FC of your previous 2.4? Was it somewhere along 5 to 6 km/l?

We also sold our CR-V, a current gen. In the city the FC of the 2.0 a/t was practically the same as the 2.5 Xtrail but nowhere near as fun to drive. Missus now wants a 7 seater so we're looking at the Touran, Innova and the incoming 1.5T CR-V and NP300 SUV. So much for saving money and going 2nd hand.
BTT:
Incoming all new 2017 Tiguan looks nice. Looks a lot bigger. Might be why they are discounting the current gen.
Looks BMW-ish from the side.
That front is looking goooood
